anyone know how much the tool for the fd oil seal is, the seal behind the castleated nut which goes on the driveshaft inside the bevel drive.?

Get it done by Steptoe, it is VERY tight and he has the gear to do it, have a look in the font, his original post might be in there.

It's equivalent to a porn additction: Occasionally useful but too much use and it'll get worn out.

Just had a look in my BMW journal & they have everything up to 1200's
There is a small hire charge for stuff (revenue covers replacement & buying new stuff) & you have to be a Club member but only about £20 pa

You also need a 36 mm Nut socket which is cheap in this link as well.
It is for 1/2" drive which is OK, so you don't need any adaptor for a 5/8" socket
Just buy them both from this link from warmshed.

I think I'm going ask BMW for a price for their tool as a comparison because the parts above are over £70 delivered from that supplier. It's the £25 import duty that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

You have awful duties there in England.
We don't pay any duty for items under 45 euros here in Finland.

I believe the limit is or was around £18 but that includes the postage. After that import duty is added and then the whole lot is subject to 20% vat.
Ask around if you know someone who is off to the states they could bring it back if you get it delivered to their hotel.

Well, I have often found, as has another notable BMW's Only For The Last Twenty Years spanner monkey 
, that our marque can provide spares and parts cheaper than other specialist suppliers on the internet albeit not always as quickly.
With this I have now ordered my new BMW pin wrench for the threaded ring on the input to the final drive for around £34 + VAT collected. I'll sort out any other tools I need elsewhere but overall I am happy with this and feel better at not having to give HMRC any more money this month.
What I also find is that BMW tend to have most of what I ask for in-stock within the UK.

Skinned knuckles are a price i wish not to pay..

Pekka, are you telling us here that the BMW tool has a 5/8" square socket drive?
No.
I am talking about the 36 mm nut socket. There are two different sockets, one for a 1/2" and one for a 5/8 driver.
It is not a BMW tool.
Everybody usually have a 1/2" driver in the tool box.
