I rode one today!!

Well, I finally got to go out on a GS Adv that Williams kindly let me ride today. Had a good couple of hours on wet, and only just drying roads up Marple - Buxton way.

Initial thoughts, in no particular order:

1. It is every bit as big as it felt when sitting on a showroom model, and bloody heavy (Not surprisingly).

2. It feels very relexad when moving away (much like my Dakar, except much, bigger. Nice lazy engine.

3. It pulled like a train in every gear no matter how low the revs.

:)

4. Hated the indicators. Who's bright idea was that. Left indicate, cancel with with right thumb? Right indicate, cancel with right thumb? Perhaps I'd be better with longer thumbs! Perhaps it's something you get to know and love! :(

5. Very agile for a big lardy. Through traffic, there were no problems. :)

6. Brakes. They stop the tank, very quickly. Very, very quickly. It's quiet, I thought out on a country lane, perhaps I should try the ABS. Bugger me, no dive, stopped dead with ne'er a whiff of concern!! :D Made me grin, especially as I wasn't prepared to put my foot, no toe, down to get balance from the stationary beast!! Gained a 'no fear' approach to braking hard on the way back!

7. Had a low seat allegedly, but still was a bit of a stretch (as expected). Not something that I'd be too concerned about. It never bothered me on my Dakar, but this is much bigger.

8. Screen was good, and kept enough crap and wind blast off me. :)

9. Riding position dead comfy. It just felt like I needed to do about 400 miles more than I did in the time I was out. :D

10. It was no slouch. Usable power. Good for a reasonable spped motorway blast.

11. Felt like my ZX12R was the size of a 250 when I got back on it. Still like the power though!!

12. Dilemma: Want both ZX12R and GS1150 Adv. Need tonights lottery ticket to pay me 10 grand so I can order a new 'un tomorrow!!!!

13. Liked the gear indicator (suits my lazy arse riding style, always forgetting what gear I'm in. :)

14. Front end feedback didn't really match up to what I'm used to (to self: obviously, dimwit), and felt a little vague when cornering. Need many hours to get used to being so far away from the surface with the front end.

15. As per the tin, goes anywhere and takes any surface you chuck at it. Grids, pot holes, dead rabbits, and one filthy little track up to a farm that I couldn't resist. Sorry mister, wrong turn! ;)

16. Loved standing up on the pegs.

17. Visibility is confidence inspiring (as per my Dakar).

Conclusion. Want one. Just a question of when, I think!!!

Good for you fella - I was the guy you were talking to at Williams when Charley Boorman was there, you might remember I virtually parked my Adventure in the doorway so Charley couldn`t leave without signing my bike for me.
I could tell from our conversation that night you really want an Adventure - never mind, after lots of sleepless nights your thinking gets really ****ed up and you will just give in and buy one anyway because its good for you!
see you out and about soon:D

I remember you, yes! Never did get to have a sit on the machine that you were on about (was it yer mates?).

If I had any sort of financial stability over and above the dire supply (of wages) and demand (of outgoing being more than wages!!), I'd order a brand spanker now!

New year sobriety. It's a bugger.

;-)
