Hi all, I am looking for some advice as I have my GS in pieces and the sunny weather is motivating me to fix things!

I have an '02 1150GS with 39,000 miles and have just replaced the gearbox, however in putting the left hand final drive axle/ pivot in, I have stripped the thread.

I have a replacement on order, but what I did was as per Haynes manual torque figures, once I had screwed the bolt into the swinging arm, I then put the steel locking nut onto the alloy pivot bolt and attempted to torque this up to 160nm which seemed awfully high on the alloy bolt.

Hey presto, in trying to tighten the lock nut, I stripped the threads off the alloy pivot bolt.

Does anyone have any advice on this and how to prevent another balls up????

Bad luck...The torque value is right I've done it a couple of time with no problem :nenau

On closer inspection, I think the locking nut had some slightly 'less than sharp' thread, which may have contributed to slightly poor fit and stripping alloy threads at less than spec'd torque setting.... oh well you live and learn :rob

Did you clean the threads from the loctite before assembling? The original threadlock is quite strong, before tightening I carefully cleaned the thread with a niddle
