Heads Up Everone

Just had a phone call from Rainbow regarding a recall on the 1150GS.
BMW have issued an urgent Bulletin to do with a gearbox problem.
I have had no further information at present other than it concerns a potential risk of complete gearbox lockup in fifth and sixth.
BMW are recommending taking the affected bikes off the road pending a gearbox replacement.
I have the Sports option box on my bike I don't know if it affects the Overdrive model.
I urge all members to contact their dealer asap.

Don't Ride em

I too have just had a call from my dealer, Calterdon, Inverness to say that they would be picking my Sept. 02 O/D gearbox GS up soon to sort out this recall, couldn't go into detail yet, just don't ride it !!:(

Let it develope as they say !!

Update

More information including the affected VIN's here
Includes non GS models also.
This is a major pisser especialy for those of us planning to go to the NEC tomorrow.
It's gonna cost BM cos' I for one will be demanding they supply me with alternative transport

Comment From BMW

Was at the NEC today after having blagged a lift.
BMW Tech Support informed me they would recover my bike, sort a hire car and probably have me a new gearbox fitted by the middle of next week. This was confirmed when I got home in a mesage left by Rainbow. They appear to be giving priority to people who have no other means of transport so the time scale may differ for those who also run a car.
Apparently around 150 bikes are affected in the UK.
The BMW rep appeared open, concerned and honest.
This opinion may be revised if I'm not back on the road next week.
BTW he was very interested to hear this issue was being discussed on various Bulletin Boards world wide. ;)

Hi maur1150gs,

Follow the link marked "here" in one of my earlier posts in this thread it has a list of all affected VIN's posted on the US GS site.

BMW recovered my bike yesterday and provided a loan car to replace it. This was organised by the Mondial recovery service. The car has been authorised for 96 hours but my dealer reckons it will need to be extended as they have no information regarding the supply of replacement gearboxes.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday (my bike doesn't need a recall). The pre-fix on VIN Nos apparently changes from country to country, so the previously published list is only relevant for bikes built for the US market. The only way to be sure on this one is to ring or visit a BMW Main Dealer & get him/her to check your VIN out on their computer. Even if you've got an import, this should work, (but that'll teach ya!:p )

MikeO:)
