Think there may have been water in the housing as the button wouldn't depress one freezing morning recently, now the button depresses but wont turn the indicators on. Right side working perfectly as do hazards. Took apart yesterday and the little white 'button' switch the paddle depresses works but no result at the indicators. Can it be taken apart and fiddled with as you have to renew the entire left handlebar switchgear :(

Anyone know the answer ?

Thanks in advance.

Indicator

It's the micro-switch. If you do a search on here you'll see it's been gone into in fine detail, including where to get the micro-switch.:thumb

I would first check the the indicator works when you short out the two wires feeding the switch, if it operates the indicators then the switch is duff if not you have a wiring fault.

If you fit a need a replacement switch, see the font of all wisdom section http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103062&highlight=indicator+micro+switch

Lots of other threads but this entry shows how to waterproof the new switch to ensure you dont have a problem with the new one.

Take the micro switch apart and clean it, Simples
20 minute job, you will find the terminals are a little dirty. Bit of wet and dry paper cut in a 3mm strip will clean it, Just make sure you dont bend the prongs apart too much as they will not touch after to make a contact:thumb

Many thanks for all the replies, problem solved - took microswitch top off and found the prongs of the contacts were clean enough but weren't bent in towards eachother enough so when the switch was depressed and the plastic which keeps them apart at the top displaced they were'nt making contact as intended.

Not sure it won't recur and the are deffo a bit fragile so bending them was a bit frought .

Will order a few replacements shortly from the link posted earlier and if anyone wants a couple at cost just post on here.

The RH indicator switch on my 2003 1150GS has played up almost from day-one. Sometimes it will work for a couple of years without problems and at other times it has required stripping & cleaning twice in the space of a few months.
Do the replacements (ESM K12 1 5N C) really fit ok and after reading how easily it can be to damage them with over-enthusiastic use of the soldering iron, how many do you think it is wise to order (I was thinking 2-3)?
I was going to order some a couple of years ago but that is when they appeared to be unavailable so I just made do but the latest bout of problems (probably due to the winter weather) has made me look into it again.
