1150 GSA petrol leak

Thought I'd seek the views of the experienced before chasing down a petrol leak.
Noticed a petrol vapour smell yesterday, a couple of days after bike was last ridden, and then this morning a few drops on the garage floor and inside the bash plate. Couldn't see where they're coming from, but not much more than a weep. Bikes an 04 model with 55,000 miles on the clock. Any known weak points where I should be looking first?

Any of the joints between the tank and the plastic pipes into the injection system. Also the quick release joints if it has any
The hosing goes brittle after a few years.

Did you fill the tank completely before parking it up on the sidestand?

Leaking at tank/pump seal

Stripped tank off and traced leak to the fuel pump sealing O-ring where it bolts into the tank. I plan to renew the O-ring using a smear of gasket and replace the in-line fuel filter too whilst its accessable. Anything else I should do whilst its apart? Fuel lines and quick release connectors and the gauze filter all look in good nick.

Bigtwin: can you tell me more about the recall modon the q connections? How do I spot if it's been done? Cheers Spanner

Dunno how you tell. I got my Adv as an ex-demo from the utterly useless Vines in Guildford. Got it home and it stank the garage out. Took it back - THEN they checked for recalls and said the connection one hadn't been done. They did it, and that was the problem solved. I have a feeing it was o-rings cracking and leaking - so I guess vis inspection may tell you. By the time you've done that, you may as well change them anyway though.

The crappy crimped clamps on the rubber hoses where they join the metal pipes leak too. I've had mine changed under warranty.

I'm looking at replacing with braided hoses and decent clips. I'm fed-up with re-crimping the clamps.

The two fuel lines right hand side,below the tank - have crappy crimped clipps

(try saying that when ur pissed!)

Replace with mini-jubalie (? spelling) ones, .........well known fault

I have some Stainless ones (enough to replace all the crimped clamps) but the hose has become a little brittle too.

There's a place at Kingsteignton that makes braided hoses to length. Next time I have the tank off, I'm going to take all the hoses to them and have some made-to-measure.

Same prob with gasket on my 05 plate. Fuel sender was icorrect and replaced under warranty, suspect o ring was re used. Remedied with new O ring

it's OK/normal to re-use it. I'e only ever had to replace one in 5 years. And that was due to it being damaged by an idiot.

If you see my similar thread I tried to re-crimp the originals but ended up getting a 95 octane shower on start up.

Have resorted to stainless jubilee clamps for now as it has solved the fuel leak

Whilst poking around with the fuel lines I noticed that all of the "rigid" lines moved easily within the flexible lines where they are clamped.

That was a bit worrying as there is a lot of pressure in the fuel lines with the motor running

Only the one has leaked with me so far but unless you have the proper crimping pliers I would not try it at home

I did, with the wrong pliers, and got a good shower in the face whilst checking and pulling the fuel lines
