Is it possible to run the bike with the head light turned off

I have read that, on the 1200 , by holding the indicator switches down for 5 seconds ,pressing the horn ,standing on one leg etc ,then it is possible to turn off the lights

I want to fit a HID to the dip but don,t want to run in the day with it on

I will use the spots as marker /run lights

In short, no.

The 1200 was doable on the early ones i think, hold the left indicator for 5 seconds, then hold the cancel for 10 ? something like that anyway...:nenau

This was a coded message to the ZFE, which the 1150 don't have.....:(

Thanks Smudge

Thought as much

Hmm Plan B :nenau

Take the live supply from the back of the headlight dip beam.

Pass that through a switch, then to terminal 85 of a standard ISO relay.

(take the third terminal of the switch go to ground if it's a lit switch, so it tells you when your dip beam light is on)

Connect a fused lead from the battery directly to terminal 30 of the relay

Connect terminal 86 of the relay to earth

Connect terminal 87 of the relay to the supply for the HID......If the HID has its own relay, it will go to terminal 85 of the HID relay.

Job done :thumb2

By the way, it's probably totally unnecessary.....I can't really see why you want to have the HID dip beam off :nenau

As long as it's pointed correctly, it will pass a UK mot, it won't dazzle anyone and you can keep it nice and simple......the more wiring, the more connections, the more connections, the more chance of one of them shaking off under vibration or just simply shorting with the wet....keep it as simple as you possibly can and there's far less to go wrong, fault finding becomes easier by a factor of 4 per relay fitted and life is sweet :thumb

Thanks Fan, that sounds doable:thumb2

I don't want to drive around blinding folk with my HID or pissing off foreign rozzer when in Germany, Italy, Swiss, Frog, etc
So I figured being able to turn it off ...........
