1150 Speedo Housing

Aidan - you're a star :thumb2

I really hope I dont have to take you up on the offer though - stickers are on their way and bluffing will start shortly :aidan

Hi Trev,
bike WILL FAIL if you stick numbers on outside of glass. The guy I told you about ended up buying a new speedo.
Bring the bike down & we will have a look at taking the unit apart so you can put your stickers on the face.

Brian.

I bought a bike from a chap who had imported his R1150GS from Germany when he moved back here. It had the headlights changed but not the clock which only showed kph only and it passed the MOT for several years. I changed the clock this year for a 2nd hand one I bought off ebay. When I took it for its MOT the other week they didn't even want to see the old clock to check the original mileage.

Trev, it would be easier for you just to borrow an MPH speedo for the vehicle inspection / registration and then to revert back to your old speedo, with a MPH overlay for your protection if you're unable to divide the kms by 8 and multiply by 5 to ensure that you are complying with the speed limits.
Otherwise, each time you come South of the border or sur le Continent, it will be divide by 5 and multiply by 8.
Just my 2 pence/2 cents worth

no need to check old speedo, only interested in whats on the bike at time of test

all sorted by Brian at Mototech :beerjug:

MOT passed with cheapass stickers on the face - all i need now are my new reg. numbers - here's hoping i filled out the forms correctly

Trev - did you need to sort out your headlight as well?

I've just brought at 1200GS back from Qatar and need to get tested; speedo and headlight are the issues. Talked to Hurst and got a fair shock: £350 for the left dipping headlight; £250 for a speedo (which will apparently reset my odometer to miles also according to whatever the bike has done); about £150 to fit these. Also needs it's first main service for about £200. Those are crazy numbers.

You managed with some stickers for your 1150. wonder if this'll work for me?? But what did you do about the headlight - I think they're very strick about that in NI test centres now.

Thanks,
Iain

The only way to print the new MOT disc Iain is to check the headlight alignment. If the light is alright height wise, then the wee deflector sticker on the lens should do the trick.

Worth a try anyway. :thumb2

Brain - it sounds like the bike just has to be able to show mph and kmph but I understand that stickers outside won't do. A new speedo seems to be about £250 and for a little more I can get a decent bike gps which would of course show the speed in mph at all times. Do you think this would satisfy the requirement? Obviously I don't want to turn up with an expensive new bike mounted GPS just to be told it doesn't meet the criteria.

Thanks,
Iain

Can't you rotate the 1150 headlamp in the housing to change the dip pattern between left and right, or does that only work on the UK models?

Think that only works on 1100s - the sticker only costs a couple of quid anyway
