Just wondering if anyone had any pics of the internals of a speedo drive?

Mine isn't working so I've dismantled it - it's sooooo simple. The knurled plastic ring that engages with the cable drive on one side, and slots into the hub drive on the other looks ok and drives the speedo cable if I rotate it manually. The plastic castellations look a bit worn but I don't exactly know how much they should protrude. The metal tabs on the drive in the hub that engage with the plastic castellations look ok too but.... they're not engaging when it's all assembled so the speedo drive doesn't turn.

Question is, is it the plastic driver or is it the metal tabbed washer that's buggered:) I guess both bits are cheap enough if you can get them separately but I was wondering if anybody else had had this problem? I think the cause was a buggered speedo cable that became very stiff to turn and that probably put too much strain on the internals of the drive in the hub.

The metal tab drive in the hub usually wears through the white plastic drive.
Always replace the tab drive and the plastic drive as a pair because the tab drive gets sharpened edges and will soon cut it's way through the plastic at the slightest resistance at the cable.

Are you sure the cable hasn't just sheared off at one end? The drive cables have a life span...thankfully they're cheap and easy to replace unlike the electronic versions I newer Bikes!

Just bent the tabs up a bit and it's working again. I'll replace the tab and the plastic though as it's such a simple job:)

MMMM, mine stopped recently as well
one day I shall get around to working it and investigating.
thanks for the advice

Simply not true ref the newer bikes, it takes about 10 seconds to 'acquire' a new set of clocks for free :D
