1150 washed and will not start

Lifes a bugger

The bike still will not start
So I really do need some advice as I have run out of ideas:blast

Battery fine
RID and neutral lights all ok and show while being started (so it is not kill or side stand switches)
Fuel pump primes
Sparks at plugs
Fuel at injectors
Coil is fine
I have just installed a new Hall Sensor. The fuel pump still does not prime when the rear wheel is turned while in gear though).
All the wires and connections under the tank seem sound.
The throttle cables are all seated and in the right place

It will be off to the local BMW dealer - closer than Steptoe and Brian Giles
if cannot solve it. That is a humiliating thought
:comfort

Any suggestions Please
Paul

The bike will run for a few seconds if I squirt pwer start in the air intake.
Therefore could it be fuel pressure?

I have no expertise on GS's but here's what i'd do:
Bypass the sidestand switch even if you're sure its good
and if that doesn't work disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to clear any motronic issues , then reset the motronic by the throttle snapping shut thingy.

Might be clutching at straws but what have you got to lose?

Steve

still sounds to me like water in the fuel , if you can see the injectors pumping & it fires when you use the spray can I would think you have water being pumped into the motor & i'm pretty sure water doesnt burn :):)

After I have worked out how to get that blasted circlip back on the sidestand switch (an Hour and half already); I will drain all the petrol and put in some new 97 octane:thumb

when you say ,fuel is making it to the injectors
did you just check for fuel at the pipe
or pull the injector and make sure it sprayed?

Did you check the little water drainoff hole in the filler assembly?

If it blocks you get mucho water in the fuel......if you got compression and spark.....that stuff squirting from the injectors may not be fuel.............

Pulled and it sprayed a nice pattern onto a card
Thanks for the suggestion

Water seems to be a theme at the moment. Not checked that hole but did remove the filler cap as was just thrashing around thinking of the most unlikely things. I will check it again now:thumb

sorry not got a 1150 but what did it smell like did you try to light it :D

Smelt like petrol. No I did not try and light it. Try not to use flames normally around petrol perhaps that is what I have been doing wrong I should have set fire to it

Phone steptoe up :thumb

sounds like fuel pressure regulator - ie squirts at atmospheric but not under pressure in the cylinder.

tho why washing it would do that is anyones guess

If the fuel pump doesn't prime while turning the rear wheel it's 90% that it is the hall sensors ( so long as the fuel pump primes when turning on the ignition).

so whats the wrong with the other 10% ??????????

set fire to the fucker :D and get an airhead :bounce1

edit just seen motokaister's reply:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

Are the plugs wet with fuel after trying to start it?

I try not to run the starter for that long but there is a smell of fuel
The spark plugs are new and look shiny whether dry or wet
The old spark plugs actually had a colour that the old Haynes manuals would be proud to reproduce
:thumb

It may also be worth pulling the connector to the TPS and checking no water got in there when you washed it.

have you tried putting the old spark plugs back in. i have had new plugs fail on a few occasions (they dont make em like they used to :rob)

This sounds to be a real possiblity especially as the plugs are not as wet as you would expect per Timolgra.
That looks a real bitch to get at and replace/repair
I will try the change of fuel and air holes before embarking on that route

This link to advrider post 12 onwards shows that it may be a little easier than I thought
Link

It looks scarier than it probably is
