Replaced the battery on my 1150GS this week (It's been dying for a while, but I've only used the bike a few times in the last month.)
Took it out last evening, filled it with petrol, then 18 miles away from home problems.!!
Doing about 50-60mph it suddenly stalled, so grabbed the clutch and pulled to the side of the road. Ignition lights OK, RID OK, but wouldn't start.
Despite repeated trying, wouldn't start, and I noticed the fuel pump in 'prime' mode was screeching at a much higher pitch than normal.
It was obvious to me - the fuel pump was somehow siezing up.
Two hours later - rescue arrives - taps the tank whilst I try the starter - still no joy. Must be the fue pump,
Two hours fater that (We're now at 11pm) recovery truck arrives.
Home by midnight - hurrah.
Good long search on the forum today and I reaiised it could be Hall Sensor failing.
Time to do some proper investigation.
Pull injector, nothing.
Check spark - no problem.
MUST be fulel pump.
I don't know why but checked the quick couple connector, and one didn't look 'quite right'. Pulled it, and reseated it with a bit of olive oil to help slide in - and the pesky thing started straight off!!!!
I'm guessing the high pitched pump was because it was pushing against the shut off valve in th equick connector?
I'm putting it down to the conector, but are there any other tests I can/should make before I write it off as just being careless?
