Replaced the battery on my 1150GS this week (It's been dying for a while, but I've only used the bike a few times in the last month.)

Took it out last evening, filled it with petrol, then 18 miles away from home problems.!!

Doing about 50-60mph it suddenly stalled, so grabbed the clutch and pulled to the side of the road. Ignition lights OK, RID OK, but wouldn't start.
Despite repeated trying, wouldn't start, and I noticed the fuel pump in 'prime' mode was screeching at a much higher pitch than normal.
It was obvious to me - the fuel pump was somehow siezing up.
Two hours later - rescue arrives - taps the tank whilst I try the starter - still no joy. Must be the fue pump,
Two hours fater that (We're now at 11pm) recovery truck arrives.
Home by midnight - hurrah.

Good long search on the forum today and I reaiised it could be Hall Sensor failing.
Time to do some proper investigation.

Pull injector, nothing.
Check spark - no problem.
MUST be fulel pump.

I don't know why but checked the quick couple connector, and one didn't look 'quite right'. Pulled it, and reseated it with a bit of olive oil to help slide in - and the pesky thing started straight off!!!!

I'm guessing the high pitched pump was because it was pushing against the shut off valve in th equick connector?

I'm putting it down to the conector, but are there any other tests I can/should make before I write it off as just being careless?

when my HS failed , .....cough, cough BANG, BANG , stop. vvv reluctant to start . Ign on , sound of frying bacon at injectors. this is caused by HS switching on+off , inj's pulsing as told to by ECU. of course, ign timing is out , hence rough running and poor starting.

not careless , just not careful enough this time. it is just trying to teach you a lesson ....and it has.

i had a fuel connection fail on a customers bike , it just came undone ? 100 miles after a service.

At least you saved fuel getting home! :D
Glad you’ve sorted it. Hopefully. :D

Tell me more, was the fuel connector issue the cure for your problem? I am currently on the road having put a new battery in last week and some thing similar happened Saturday. Hopefully it will start tomorrow

Yes this solved my issue completely. All looked ok, but a tug on the connector will take it apart.
I had failed to lube it when putting it back together.
Big clue should have been the screaming pump, trying to prime an already pressurised system.

Hope you get it sorted.

If you've had the tank up or off you may have dislodged the throttle cable where it meets the throttle body, normally right side.

Throttle cables checked and appear to be sitting correctly
