There's a company called Hexcode Microsytems in South Africa who are currently working on a system to interrogate BMW motorcycle ECU's.
This is an extract from an e-mail I received from them in May of this year:
"......we started looking into this early
2004... well, nearly 2.5 years later and we are about a month or two
away from beta releases...
For the time being you will be able to read the General Controller info
(all the part numbers, VIN and software versioning information, as well
as read and erase the Fault codes for almost ALL BMW motorcycles...
(that are diagnosable) - the software is called GS-911 (an emergency
tool for GS bikes, that are generally not near a service center when
things go wrong... ;-) ) however the tool will work on most motorcycles
and of course we aim to cover ALL of them eventually!
you can find some screenshots here
http://www.hex.co.za/hexdiag/GS-911.html
this page I set up when Simon asked me how far we were... (Don't know if
you know of Simon and Lisa Thomas (
www.2ridetheworld.com ) -great
people... have a look at their website..
Anyway, you can find some more (un)official info on
www.hexcode.co.za
I will most definitely add you to my interest list... and let you know
when the tool is ready for release, as well as when the website is up etc...
Oh yeah, almost forgot, 2 more things:
1. what bike(s) do you have?
2. the tool will also be available in a mobile version (with bluetooth)
;-) - not always practical to be carrying your laptop around with you
just for in case.... ;-)"
