hi iv a gs 1200 05 i dont do any off road or track days just a couple of trips a year to europe does anyone have any knowledge/oppinions what tyres give the most millage any help would be very welcome CHEERS .

You can always do a lot worse than the good old original Metzler Tourance. (Not the newer EXP)
I get 9000 miles from a rear and about 15000 from a front and before anyone chips in I ride 'enthusiastically'
The whole tyre debate is age old, it's all a matter of choice. This is just my 2p's worth
My current 'experiment' with Avon Azaros has seen the rear start to square in unver 2000 miles. The Tourance it replaced wasn't really squared after 6000.
I'll be back on the Tourance (assuming you can still buy them???) once I'm down to the canvas.
I *may* try Maxiis Tyres next - for no other reason than the woman on their stand at the NEC was as fit as and very chatty

Same here. Subject to how "happy" you are on the throttle but I get 12k fronts and 8k from the backs on my Tourance's. Stay away from the EXP's - you will be replacing them after about 4k.
Never let go in wet or dry and don't flat in the middle either.

anakee's lasted 10000 from a rear and most of my rides are with sportsbike riding mates, thats a mixture of sunday blasts, commuting and long distance motorway. Now fitted anakee2's which are supposed to have better tyre life so I'll wait and see.
......take claims of Tourance longevity with a pinch of salt. If you know what the twisty thing on the bars is for you'll struggle to get a legal 5k out of a rear. Nice tyres none the less (if you forgive the initial run-in front end death wobble).

yep i'll second this. usually got 5-6k out of a tourance rear but managed 8k out of trail attack rear and that included a 5k two up trip in europe so i'm well impressed with the wear.

Have they stopped making the old version then?
Just fitted a set of TKC80's to mine for green laning, but will move back to road tyres for the summer trip (deathwings!
) but then I'll probably need a set when I get back.P

Wot's the grip like with these in comparison to Tourances then? Why do you prefer them (other than mileage)?

Hello there. As you can see, you will never get a definitive answer on tyres as, for example, some of us love Tourances while others describe them as rubbish. We can't all be right or wrong. Decide your riding style or general conditions and then ring dealers for best prices. Good luck with whatever you choose.
grip is really good in spring/summer but in wintry, crappy conditions i'll be putting tourances on again but for a tour i'd put the trail attacks on no question.

when I bought my Gs it had half worn tourances on, did 5k miles, then changed to trial attack and the back is well squared and past half worn at 3k miles, ill be lucky to get another 2k out of it

I am on my second set of these and I too think they are brilliant, I ride VERY enthusiastically and manged to get 5500 miles out of back

Everybody will have different opinions and these will be based on many different factors - driving style, routes taken, traffic conditions, rider weight, ambient temperature, road surface, tyre pressures, pillion or not ........when you have worked it all out ( and the chart mentioned in one of the posts is now 5 years old) you will know what to do!

as Brian Rosen says its down to your style of riding etc., my 08 1200GS came with conti attack's on. So far done 7000m with no probs, do well in wet and dry and have done 2000m in the mountains of northern Spain and held up with mates on Fireblades. looks like they will do about 12000m in total. MY verdict HAPPY

Totally agree - just changed Conti Trail Attack rear at around 8800 miles - although it was looking somewhat fatigued this stage....

i'm verry happy with Michelin Anakee 2. they replaced the Dunlops Traill Max which equipped the bike when bought it. last pair served me more than 22000 km. more than 8k with passenger and luggage and about 3k offroad. for long touring and light offroad i can't see anything better. just my 2 cents.
