1200GSA LC ESA harsh suspension

Yep but I didn't spend £700 on the ESA option to find out it was crap, in the first place:blast

I'd never buy a bike with ESA and Cookie has always been right

Straight to Ohlins or Wilbers..............job done

No you wouldn't, spend money? perish the thought,
Ohlins or Wilbers is the cheaper option then? Rhetorical question.........
Speaking of which, how many bikes are affected by this?

I've counted 5. Worldwide.

One thing that bugged me big style and put me off the new GSA was the harsh suspension

The suspension on my 2009 is ten times better

I've voiced my opinion a few times on this matter.
WP beats Sachs every time.
What were BMW thinking?

It's not as simple as that. The Dynamic ESA on my 2013 GS is very plush and is much better than the ESA systems on my previous '09 and '11 plate GSes. More than that, it actually provides a better ride quality than my wife's '63 plate VW Tiguan. There may well be some bikes with suspension faults and there may well be some people with unrealistic expectations..... :nenau

WRONG!
It is that simple. I'm on my 2nd Sachs equipped TE and it's still harsh on broken/rippled road surfaces.
I still own several BMW's with WP ESA and they are sooo much better than my 2014 TE
As for unrealistic expectations,I expect at over 15K,a bike that delivers in EVERY respect. Oddly enough there are a lot of Multistrada owners having the same complaints about the Sachs set up also used on Ducati's.
Sachs feels cheap and nasty. Probably because it is.

I don't see any point in mentioning your wife's car,this is a motorcycle forum.

I wouldn't say he is wrong.

All these reports of harsh suspension have had me trying to find fault with mine (a 2 month old GSA). I've been riding over cats eyes, running over the rumble strips on the edge of the motorway hard shoulder (I can hardly feel these), and the rumble strips going into and out of villages, etc., and, TBH, I don't think there is an issue with mine. It is certainly smoother over these surfaces than my 2010 GSA TC was. A couple of weeks ago I hit a sizable stone from a dry stone wall (it was a little larger than a house brick) at between 50 to 60 mph. I certainly knew I'd hit it! but the suspension soaked it up well. I stopped immediately fearing that I'd damaged the wheels or tyres, to my suprise all was fine.

Undoubtably there are people that have got problems with their dynamic suspension, but not all GSs fitted with it are having problems.

I think that's what's being said here - that there is something broken with the suspension in the OP's case (and others), rather than something inherently wrong. That's why some are complaining and others aren't i.e some are broken, some aren't.

Listen sunshine, you've clearly not learned that I don't do "wrong". :P

Let me reiterate - both my 2013 TE and my son's 2014 TE provide excellent ride quality, as indeed do the two other TEs that I've ridden. Having owned five GSes in total, to date, two of them equipped with ESA and one with Dynamic ESA, I think I'm in a better position to judge.

The fact that you don't see any point in me mentioning my wife's car is an indication of the limitations of your perception and imagination. So, let me spell it out for you. Having ridden all manner of motorcycles over the last 40 years, I've come to expect a certain standard of ride quality even from some of the Ohlins equipped machines that I've owned and ridden. Rarely does that approach the quality of even some of the stiffer Bilstein suspended cars I've owned. However, I recently had occasion to ride the same piece of bumpy, rural road and drive it in my wife's Tiguan with its 17" wheels and non-sports suspension, on the same day. I found myself driving along thinking the car was quite a lot stiffer than I'd remembered until I realised that I was comparing it with the very plush ride that my GS had provided ealier in the day.

You are making ridiculous, sweeping generalistions on the basis of limited information. That's never a wise thing to do.

"Listen sunshine, you've clearly not learned that I don't do "wrong"." -Who the F**K do you think you are?

Now on my 2nd WC bike and as I've already pointed out, still own WP equipped BMW bikes,I'm not making "sweeping generalisations"
My opinions are based on MY finding on several different BMW's.

Leave the cars out of it.

I would at this point like to apologise for having any opinions that conflict with you own thoughts.
You are obviously a higher entity and we all bow to you.

If no one else is allowed an opinion based on experience, just start your own form,be the only member, then you'll be right every time.

All pray to Schtum and give thanks to him for thinking for us. We are not worthy. Amen

You see, even lower forms of life have some capacity for learning......

I've just spoken to a reputable suspension company and they say that there may be something they can do to revalve the Sachs units.
They have had some success revalving Ducati Sachs and think they can do the same with the BMW items.
My units are going there if they give me a yes when they see some images.

That's very good news, I will be very interested to hear how you get on.

Incidentally, my 2014 bike with the 'white springs' is a less comfortable ride at lower speeds on poorer surfaces than my previous 2013 bike that had the 'black springs' (the pre-steering damper model).

I wonder has anyone at all has complained about a harsh ride from the original 2013 bike with the black springs?

That's it then !!!!!

Its all down to the colour of the paint on the spring. Problem solved.:D
