Hi Chaps,

I have been searching old posts but still confused :blast

I have a 2007 1200 GS "Adventure" with the handle bar "Cross Brace".

Can you tell me if any of the BMW tankbags (Large or small) fit without having to remove the brace??

If so does any one have the part numbers for the correct tank bag please?

Alternatively, is it safe to remove the "Cross Brace" from the bars and in doing so will I be able to fit either size of the BMW tank bags??

I am just planning a European trip in the next few weeks.

Any advice is much appreciated:beerjug:

Cheers

GS tank bag from BMW Dealer, hooks over the front and zips at the back. Not cheap, but works very well.

Thanks for the feed back but I have tried a BMW Motorrad large tankbag and it will not fit because it fowls the handlebar cross brace??

Has anyone got a genuine BMW tank bag fitted to a GSA and retained the handlebar cross brace please

yes, i have.

the original large bmw bag c.2006 that many say doesn't fit. it does, but touches the cross brace on my old 07 year GSA. no big deal, no detriment to anything except a bit tight getting your hand down to hook it on.

i also have the c.2007 smaller bmw bag, which fits fine, with more clearance that makes fitting slightly less fiddly.

no idea what the part no's are.

both can be fitted straight onto my 2011 twin cam GSA too :)

I put a Buglux tank cover on my 07 GSA then just fitted my old Buglux Tank bag on, no problems.

As he says :thumb2
2005 large original tank bag fits well. It touches the cross bar but not a big deal

I have a cross brace on my '11 reg GSA and tank bag fits no problem altho' i do remove the pad. On full lock when turning cross brace does touch the bag but never been an issue so far.

08 GSA with BMW tank bag and cross brace with pad. No problems.

Any BMW bag will do and as already mentioned, they may be close to the brace but no problems.

Also, there is no issue removing the brace if you feel you need to:thumb

Hi
as others have said not sure why you think there is a problem with the cross brace
you can see on mine that if you turn the handle bars they will roll round the bag with out touching it
and even when i sit on the bike its not in the way
also its great to lean on when you are doing endless miles
mine is a 2006 GSA by the way :beerjug:

I bought the last of the small Wunderlich bags from NN. Its ideal for my use, small enough to be unobtrusive but large enough for maps in map pocket and a few bits and bobs inside. Pretty waterproof too.

Especially useful at ferry ports/borders for passports, gloves, tickets etc.

Only minor annoyance, on full left lock it sets the horn off!:nenau

Excellent thanks Gazzabart,
Would you mind checking the inside label of your tank bag and telling me the part no please??

Thinking back to my 2006 GSA with crossbar and 2006 tank bag, I found it a bit tight for space hooking on the front bit at the head stock.
The cross bar would touch on full lock but not a problem.
Since then I have had a 2008 and at present a 2010 GSA and the tank bags seem have a longer front connecting piece which makes hooking on the front bit much easier and makes the bag sit further back from the bars.

it was a bit awkward. i used to use half an old plastic ruler to hook the front on.

I use Wunderlich handlebar bag and the BMW handlebar brace to support it. V handy for tolls and charging / storing phone. Much more convenient than tank bag for this purpose.

However I use small Touratech tank bag to hold my SLR (Canon 5D) with 24-105 lens and use removable map case attached by Velcro.

Tankbag touches handlebar bag at full lock but can be forced to full lock no problem.

Morning

right then

on the front of the label it says

7 709 149
(993907)
Lieferanten - Nr. 507 518 10

on the reverse side of the label it says
CA 39011
RN 103331

not sure which of these numbers helps - so ive done all of em

reading the other posts - re fitting with a plastic ruler ????

i always put the hook on first
drop it under the catch
then pull the bag gently back to the zip and zip across

never ever had any problem at all

hope this helps
