Has anyone lowered a standard 1250 GSA? Looking at Touratech lowering springs but worried about the side and centre stands being too long after.

Silly question, I suppose, but have you already got the bike that you're looking to lower? If so, I assume that you've got the seat in the lower setting?
 
Had the bike for awhile now. Already have a low seat but still not comfortable with it.

How much lower do you want it to go? Daytona M Star boots have an insert that gives an extra 25mm heel and 8mm on the balls of your feet of that's an option worth exploring for you?
 
I did consider the M Star Pro boots but I like to have the option of different boots depending on my riding. More casual boots when popping into the city for example and walking around.

The -20mm that Touratech quite should be enough I think.

Ok, you could ask @Denz0 if he could change the sprongs in your existing shocks as he services and rebuilds suspension units and has a very good name on here.
 
I’m fairly handy with the spanners so was going to attempt changing the springs myself. It’s just the length of the side stand and centre stand I’m worried about.
 
You could possibly find a pair of shorter stands on eBay.
Or have yours cut and re welded.
 
The GSA is 20mm higher than a standard GS. And i believe the GS & GSA have the same side & centre stand (when looking at the parts on realoem)- so you should not need to change anything for the stands.

And as for lowering - why not look at replacing your GSA springs with standard GS ones?
 
Are the standard GS stands not shorter than the GSA ones, I am sure I remember when local dealer lent me a lowered GSA demo bike that the said as well as the shorter shocks ( the same length as the GS ones), the bike was also fitted with GS length stands


Just checked on the oem parts finder and it confirms that a factory lowered GSA centre stand carries the same part number as the standard GS centre stand

Factory low takes 30mm off the height of the bike using the shocks, you will need a lowered centre and side stand also

The 1250 can be then made lower than factory low by adding offset seat bobbins 5mm. And you can also get an ultra low seat which takes another 30mm off the height
 
The lowering of the stock bike 30mm was effectively wiped out by the fact the bike is 60mm wider than the old 1200.
So yes the bike is lower , but wider
 
The lowering springs seem very cost effective. Especially if I install them myself.

Hi, this is a bit more complicated than most people think !

R1250GS operates with the autolevel system, so it reads the live data from the swing arm sensors .

If you decide to slap hyperpro (Touratech rebranded parts TT doesn't make suspension ) springs, you will destroy autolevel mode ,the best thing BMW ever made for suspension.

I have contacted Hyperpro about this product, and they are not able to provide any dat with the spring. What they suggest one spring fits all riders regardless if they are 70KG or 140 KG
It doesn't make sense!

The best way to get this done is to lower the suspension exactly the same way as the manufacturer does by installing stroke limiting spacers and using stiffer shorter springs. Then calibrate DESA and autolevel will work properly . Zero out the sensors at full extensions so the system knows exactly what the SAG is .

Side stand and centre stand need to be altered if you drop more than 25 mm
On some occasions, side stand works, but the bike is a bit more vertical. What goes with it is easy to lift the side stand .

Another fact about Hyperpro lowering spring.
I have a spring rater that can messure the spring force in full travel very precisely ,this allows me to get all the data and compare to what they normally are with OEM spring or aftermarket setups like Tractive .
Tractive also offers good solution short shock, but the budget must be 2K+
(Nice upgrade that will also fix no damping in the ROAD setting)
Hyperpro uses dual rate spring or progressive spring, but the biggest problem I found is initial spring rate that is half of what it should be to achieve correct sag so the bike blows through the stroke and static sag is usually 25mm more then is should be . And then the rider sag will be like 100MM out of 200mm available.
Second part of the stroke is usually way to soft plus the bike is so low in the stroke that bump rubber on the rear is constantly engaged and this can creates hashness and very unpredictable behaviour when hitting biger objects.

In this situation, if the bike is in the auto level mode, the system will apply full preload just to try getting preprogrameed SAG settings.
But yes, it does what it says on the box it will drop the bike 25mm
So from the budget perspective, this is a good option, from a performance perspective. It is the worst thing you can do to your bike, but the choice is always yours .

You could achieve the same results by installing OEM springs with zero initial preload, then it cost zero and in reality will have the same result as Hyperpro lowering spring . But I don't recommend it.
