Who says I'm happy that way things are going ?
I'm not happy about outsourcing and making cheap parts in china while still charging made in germany prices !
I like the R Nine T a lot but I said not offering a centerstand, factory hard luggage and ESA and ditching TL while putting tubed wheels on in the year 2018 is not making me happy.Otherwise it would be the perfect BMW as I love the aircooled boxer.
Also why all the added complexity of water-cooling for a miserly 15 hp more. Now more mechanical wizardry and only 137 hp while the competition south of the alps offers a real 150 hp on the dyno. That does not make me happy either.
Of course 137hp/140NM if these are the final numbers are nothing to laugh at but some real top-end horsepower would add some excitement and top-speed !
Also where is a reasonably light (220Kg),powerful (150hp/140Nm) Sport boxer that is good looking, fun to ride and can be equipped with hard bags and centerstand for the yearly holiday trip that would inject some excitement in the boxer line like last the R1100S did when it came out almost 20 years ago ?
Or where is the 17 inch version of the GS set up right from the factory without any ground clearance or stability issues if you do it yourself ?
And of course a decent tool kit like in the old days would be appreciated,too...:thumby:
Quality, reliability, ease of maintenance and practicality for people that actually RIDE are all part of the BMW brand and I think the GS represents these values still the best from all motorcycles !
The Japanese have no clue anymore how to make desireable motorcycles.KTM's look like shit and have reliability/stability issues.Triumph,booring.H-D.overpriced boat ankers for clowns & pretenders.Ducati typical Italian ;Nice but fragile for people with deep pockets and posers who want to be like Dovi or Lorenzo or in the old days Foggy...:thumb
I hope BMW finds back to their old brand values while still making the best sportbikes :thumby:

Yeah, latest worldwide sales figures for the GS reeks of desperation(#failingbmw)... They are scrambling to find ways to make this obscure platform relevant again... Nowadays they just blindly follow other makes trends...

It would for sure not be that way if Steve Jobs was still around!

They’re selling a lot of bikes, for sure, but are also losing a lot of customers, me included. If you asked me 18 months ago if I’d not have a GS in my garage I’d have laughed. For the record, I’ve owned four twin cam, and six LC GS’s, so I’ve had a few!

They seem to be chasing the BHP bandwagon now, cutting costs and quality in the process.

B.t.w. I have owned only 17 boxers so far...;)
Having gone through the ranks of all generations since the late 80's starting on Paralever 2-V 1000's like R100GS and R100R.
And having said that yes I would get exited and buy a triple black R1250GS with only 137hp and 17 inch wheels cast, forged or C.F. right from the factory....:thumby:
Of course only if it still sounds like a boxer and not like a Euro-5 lawn mover...

Can someone explain the desire for 17” wheels? With the state of our roads, I like the way the big front floats across potholes.

The Triple Black won’t be launched immediately, if history is anything to go by. They’ll probably come with silver engines and frames again (:blast), then update to black engines and frames in a year or two.

The desire for 17 inch wheels ?
Quicker steering due to less gyroscopic forces and real track rubber !
Right from the factory because if you do it yourself you loose ca 2 cm ground clearance and can run into high speed stability issues. And of course it would save you from having to buy an extra set of wheel$$$ and bigger rotor$$$...;)

the best WC !200 is the current one as far as I am concerned. The next 1250 will have teething problems that I experienced with my 2014 GSA . I'll hang on for 3 years by which time it will be brilliant. I tried the R KTM and felt it just wasn't as good as good for me as the GSA Nutty

Nutty it doesn't have to be triple black.Just black with black engine and black frame with black forged or CF wheels would be just fine...:thumb2 Especially in combination with gold TTX Ohlins and Akra exhaust with 137hp/140NM and roughly 235 Kilos wet could this be a great weapon for the roads.Still not as fast as KTM or DUC on long straights but unbeatable on curvy roads...:thumby:
We'll see.Prepare to be disappointed...:D

Robbo the current LC is definitely not a bad bike. But sometimes I long for my 2012 GS which really wasn't that much slower but had more character. The LC needs more power !

I don’t take my bikes on the track, and haven’t noticed any difference in handling between my GS and my KTM. I’m obviously not a riding god, like Stick! :D

I’ll be watching the developments with the new GS, and will wait for them to iron all the bugs out (or some of them, as they’ve got to keep a few in there! :P) before I consider one.

When I change bikes next year, it’ll be for another KTM, with the larger TFT display. :beerjug:

My god you write some shite !
A GS will do 135 mph two up with luggage ( where it’s legal such as Germany). Why do you need it to be faster ?

‘Quality and reliability ‘ ? Certainly not two traits currently represented by BMW. Two reasons why many such as myself won’t buy one. Just look at the recalls and recent major issues with forks, loose spikes, premature launches before the bike is ready ( GS850).

KTM have also let things slip but they are 10 times as reliable as most current BMWs. And as for these stability issues that you keep banging on about ?

.............. And as for these stability issues that you keep banging on about ?

Possibly those allegedly connected to the death of a British motorcycle journalist on a GS and WBM's subsequent fitting of steering dampers to all GS's :nenau

No, can’t be ! It’s the KTMs that are unstable . Especially when ridden at 180 mph on the back wheel past an oh so friendly Mexican copper.......meanwhile.....back in the real world......

Arsey you remind me of a little Chihuahua I once took in from the pond...he always barked and pissed on the carpet despite being loved. He must have been abused but it got old so I found a kennel for him where he probably still barks and pisses on the ground amongst other dogs...
KTM's 10 times more reliable...:D
No stability issues...that is why the 160 hp 1290's are governered to 125 mph...:D With bags the bike thinks you are on a twisty road...;)
Get real.Like I mentioned there is lot to do for BMW but this here is a forum for BMW enthusiasts who ride BMW's for a reason and don't fall for tacky advertisements or because Dovi won last weekend at Brno...
So don't be an Arsey if you want people take you serious.
And if you just want to lift your leg...please do it somewhere else !

A buddy of mine has has his 1290 Super Adventure S up to 260kmh (on a closed road )

Sent from a U11

And don't talk nonsense about steering dampeners fitted on "unstable" GS-LC because one journalist killed himself on a unpaved road not being the riding god he thought he was.The GS is super stable and if could be a little quicker steering.
The SD was added for 2014 because the qucker stering ADV with 5 mm less trail can use not to mention the American lawyer scum waiting for one accident, blaming the manufacturer for lack of S-D and wanting billion$$$...:(

So we have the zealots vs the realists, anyone who has bought a new model bmw and ended up a beta tester so moved onto pastures new give up you can' t argue with a fanatic whatever their calling, best to ignore them.

If they want to put a deposit down on a bike that may or may not yet exist and may be fully developed or under developed then let them and if they do and in the worst case scenario the new 1250 is an underdeveloped lemon they will then be able to crow how BMW warranty is far superior to KTM, Honda, Triumph etc

Here is the lawyer infested US they are governed to 125 ! Believe me my friend was not happy as he found out in mexico last year beause he wanted to go fater than 135 hih the -Rally would have done.25 hp more but still 10 ml slower...:D
On op of that he 1290s got new flexible bag mounts so they would not wobble so bad if you were really "Ready o Race"...;)

@ Neil W ; of course a stone axe is more reliable than all new technology but who wants to ride Fred Flintstones bike...;)
And of course there is nothing wrong with waiting a year or so to make sure everything works.
But in case of BMW the new to motorcycling VVT/VVT technology is nothing new and long been used in their cars...

Wet clutches were nothing new in motorcycles but boy did it take MWB a while to make them work in the Boxer.................
