Out earlier today. After a breakfast stop we went for a ride. Stopped again after maybe 20 mins. Bike switched off. 5 mins later ready to leave and bike wont start. All the symptoms of a flat battery or one with low voltage.

I suspect the power cable from battery to starter isn't man enough.

Called BMW Assist but I managed to coax it into life myself before they arrived.

A bit miffed at this as it ruined our ride out.

Has anyone had a proper cure from BMW and not just a replaced battery ?

R1250GSA Rallye TE 2019 is the bike.

Doubt it - if that was the case it would get hot and melt the plastic sheath.

There has been reported issues with some 1250 batteries failing prematurely. Worth a chat with your local dealer.

yep, defo a faulty battery ,I had the same issue, the new batteries going in them are " heavy duty " my stealer tells me . new one under warranty OP

I had the same issue, replaced battery and been fine since. Theres a specific "PUMA" notice on their system for this issue.

Interesting. I recently took delivery of my new GS and whilst fitting the Optimate flying leads I did read the battery spec in case my Li Ion 'spare' was up to the job.

The BMW lead acid is rated @ 12V / C20: 14Ah / 200 A14 Ah

Can someone confirm if mine is the 'uprated' please?

Thx

I had the same problem/symptoms of a flat battery. Tightening the terminals was the answer. I had just fitted lights etc .

Ditto - I had added an optimate flylead and on a ride out a few weeks later had the same issue.
The terminal looked tight when I took off the side cover but I was able to get a 1/2 turn on it at the roadside and then the bike was fine (and has been ever since).
Check the terminals for a loose connection before you assume the battery is shot.

Why are you fitting a fly lead when you can charge through the socket ?

Why are you fitting a fly lead when you can charge through the socket ?

..because I have flying leads sitting unused in my garage and I do not have the Optimate socket.

Thought it may be worthwhile to share our battery spec's to see if there's a theme.
I had a failure to start on two occasions, both due to a flat battery. I asked the dealer if my bike was fitted with a defective battery because I’d read on here that some bike were. They did a check and confirmed that my bike was not one of those fitted with a battery from a duff batch. When I later thought about it, I recalled that on both occasions I’d been dicking about with the tft menu and pairing phones etc for at least 30 minutes without the engine running. One time was in my garage, the other was down a remote lane next to a lake. In the former instance remedy was effected by a battery charger the latter, by BMW assist and jump leads. My take from these experiences is twofold - tft are power hungry; R1250GS’s cannot be bump started along a flat road.
After these experiences I had a 6 week period where the bike was left unused and not on a trickle charger: it started without hesitation.

I've done the same so I have somewhere convenient to plug my heated vest into and a supply that will power my mini compressor should I ever get a puncture as the CO2 mini cylinders are rubbish :beerjug:

Should my battery go completely flat my optimate 4 won't recover it via canbus but will if connected direct
