1250GS test ride impression

QS works best above 6k revs going up and only works as intended on a shut throttle going down.

on the GS? - above 6k revs?

you need to get yours looked at - my GSA (2016 model - with the 'shit' gearbox) works smoothly at pretty much any revs full or part throttle - its so smooth

With the exception of in top gear on an Autobahn, I don't think ive ever revved my GSA above 6k, not once.

Nothing wrong with the bike, I've ridden another and it was the exactly the same.

Shift Assist up is rubbish between 1st and 2nd (I always use the clutch), is pretty crude 2-3-4-5-6 under 4.5k revs, better over and much smoother over 6k revs.
Down is rubbish with any throttle

The first 1000 miles was on mine a little sticky but as the miles increased the smoother it has become , click click click upshifts , on downshifts as good (closed throttle of course).

i think the new GS is a very good bike and I have found it better than my old RT i do miss the screen on the RT though What tyres are the best for the GS?

Depends on what you want and expect out of a tyre set .
Mileage
Grip
Off road / on road
Its a mine field to be honest
At the moment my tyre of choice is the Conti TA3 as it seems to suit fast road and the front steers fast ( my preference) good over smooth and rough surfaces (road only) copes well with road cracks overbanding etc and the front feels planted.
Only my opinion but a good tyre that fits well with the bikes performance.

thank you Mr Stick and your ta3 sounds very nice

I will try them because my tyre will need replacing in a month or two thank you

Not my experience. I use shift assist for most shifts other than 1-2 and 2-1. Initially I struggled to get on with it but after a few miles I have got used to it and it’s very smooth - up and down. Downshift with GSAP is designed for use with a closed throttle, so it’s hardly surprising it doesn’t work well with an open throttle.

You never replace your tyres until they are down to the carcass!

Don’t be a tease “Dave Andrews”.

What utter bollox saying you need to know how to use it....

Engineer is still convinced I don't know how to change gear, despite spending 24 years of my life riding a bike professionally ... :thumb2
