1250GS test ride impression

My GS 'wobbles' at high speed just as much as my KTM did, not that much and it's manageable. This 'wobble' only starts at about 120mph and reduces as you speed up and personally I think it has as much to do with the topbox than anything else (and that includes panniers).

Never had that issue even with the same set up , maybe your tyres are worn or pressures odd.
The bm for me sits well two up at that speed (okay on the auto bahn ) maybe the passenger helps . That's on my old 1200

........and there you go then.

Just like with the KTM's some people get a wobble and some people don't.

So many variables; preload, tyres, pressures, load carried, luggage and type of, road surface, wind etc etc etc

FWIW my old 1200 would weave gently fully loaded at 120ish, never an issue though. My 1190R is as stable as a stable thing no matter what I do to it but that doesn't mean some peeps don't get a wobble on them (although it does seems to only be on the S model, I've not heard of it on a R :nenau).

I don't get what the issue is unless it's to strap to your dick to use in the petty bitching going on here :nenau

Could it be, purely hypothetically speaking, that there is a reason for the sticker that warns against exceeding the specified maxsimum speed with the topbox mounted?

So the OP posts a review which seemed reasonable even if he didn’t like that bike and gets ripped to pieces, not nice for a new member.

For what it’s worth the quick shifter on my RT works but it is horrible in the low gears or at low regs in any gear going up the box. Going down is smooth on a shut throttle in 4th, 5th and 6th but I have to push so hard to make it work I feel that I’m going to break something.

As to GS weave at high speeds, I have owned 4 1200’s from 2006 to 2011 and every one had a weave at very high speeds that could be ridden through if your balls were big enough.

Go fuck yourself thats the way i do it, get over it !

Why not start a thread on it then you ignorant pig-headed twat.Don’t think you started one on that amongst the 28 others.....

To the OP, as you can see there is no point in stating anything other than undying love for the 1250 .Some of the owners are too thick and stupid to even know how to ride the thing.

Engineer is still convinced I don't know how to change gear, despite spending 24 years of my life riding a bike professionally ... :thumb2

That’s the problem, too many years doing the same thing means that you can no longer think outside box ;)

So you’ve taken the time to count them then ? Must be feeling the love but i warn you I’m as straight as they come

The way you load/size/weight and which direction the sun is shining can impact upon stability. People follow the stickers max speed advice. WoW

As for quick shifter, the harder your accelerating the better it is. It is easier going down if you have no throttle, only one bag of spanners in a metal bin. If you take the slack out the throttle (nearest I can describe for a rbw) then it is only two bags of spanners bad.

It does get better with miles, or perhaps you just get more used to it.

Did someone serve Sir his morning Croissant with salted butter or something? :D

The best big KTM Adv bikes were the 950/990 versions IMO. The newer 1190/1290 bikes are just trying to be a GS (can’t blame KTM for trying to grab some market share) but just fall short as a complete package IMO.

Both are simply miles ahead of the old knackered 1150GS however and even the dyed in the wool fans are trying to get rid if you look at what’s for sale on the site recently. :thumb2

Shit, I’m in agreement!!

The 950 was the best motor they did .

Lovely fuelled 950 motor which was better than the slightly jerky 990. I did light off road, toured and even did a track day. The orange paint was sensational with flecks of lemon that shone in the sunshine. Very reliable and fairly comfortable on long trips (with an airhawk).

Now there is a proper genuine future classic Adv Bike.

Why did I ever sell mine! :blast

Maybe read your manual then, the quick shifter shouldn't be used going up the box on low revs, it should be used with the throttle open and accelerating. Going down the box, throttle closed (well mostly). On my 2014 it wasn't great but on the 1250 it is much improved.

Oh so you are on my bike with me when i do it ? Mmmm, Don’t think so, im doing that and if you can’t get your noggin round it then too bad, i wont be bothered about it.

Del, I'm not looking for an argument on how to use the ShiftAssist. Spin your bike up to the higher revs and tell me the SA is not smoother and shut the throttle completely on downshifts and tell me it's not slicker either. I'm not saying your doing it wrong at all, I'm saying there are other ways than what youre doing.

Obviously you're joking right? First thing I do with a new bike is remove all of the warning stickers and reflectors, who sticks to the limits?????????????????????????????????????

Yup i will do that on the way home on Friday afternoon from its first service.

It was a fair response to an odd post , facts sometimes make thing a little clearer .Another 1150 owner I suspect still trying to even get a stiffy let alone have a wank , back to you armchair old boy..

Not content with providing the icing on the wank fairy cake he comes back with added sprinkles :clap which ironically maybe sums up the OPs thoughts following his test ride.

The spec of the wank cherry iced fairy cake now with added sprinkles may look good to you and other Augustus Gloop's but to those who have experienced a very good coffee and walnut cake it’s quite understandable why the OP might have found the 1250 test ride experience a little, let’s say 'ersatz'
