Shifted between a few bikes in the last 5 years,-Transalp,Vfr 800,Gs1150x2,cbr600f x2. now got a KTM 950 adv.
Without a doubt its the one that you want to crack open the throttle on.I find it easily as comfy as any of the others, although it does have a gel seat.
Power is instant and i find it difficult not to constantly blast from corner to corner.
High speed stability ,-maybe on a long corner is a bit more flighty than a GS.
I tested a 990 and decided it was not for me ,so bought the 950 which is smooth to ride.
A GS is such a nice predictable bike in any configuration , In my opinion you can't go wrong with them. But if you fancy something similar but different, something that puts a smile on your face each time you ride it then a ktm is a good choice.
As for running costs--why worry ,if someones obsessd with running costs get a cg125
