1300 GSA BMW battery maintenance

i run that model on a couple of bikes using a lead directly to the battery. if it was me. Id run the same on your bike. Id only go thru the socket if using the BMW charger particularly noting this may have led to the demise of my first GS13.

seesm crazy....they say this one can go into the plug next to the dash on the 1300...... seesm so many mixed messages. On the instructions manual it also states its good for the 1300......

just checked here in NL with the dealer. They said the black square one is no longer produced and the new model is now this one.

I've just bought (My Wife actually) the current BMW charger, For the Lithium bikes, from my dealership, And it isn't that. That is a BMW general Charger, sold for all BMW vehicles, Predominantly cars. Re-Badged BMW. That charger has been out for over ten years. The Motorrad charger for Lithium, is the Black square Charger Plus.:thumbIt may be the case, They have stopped manufacturing the black Plus charger, and now only use the one above you have ? In any case. They all will work, and straight into the Din on the TFT.
If the fact is, What you claim. My dealer has lied to me :D

yup I saw that......sometimes I think these guys have no clue......I rarely listen to them when they give their new bike delivery review before you ride off. I read up myself, and yes, I did read the user manual, all 234 pages cover to cover.....
If anyone wants a copy......I have it

Heres a question for you.
Before I go search my Manual.
The R1200GSA with ESA suspension. Advises the suspension settings are cycled every 1500, 2000 miles. To keep everything moving and free.
Does the R1300GSA say the same ?

Guess it does the same thing if you have adaptive ride height??.

Thats what i thought. That would cover it. However, the manual covers both OE options and non options. I bought mine without ARH.
Maybe the auto ride height, and auto suspension keep making adjustments to suspension spring settings anyway??. So they will keep things moving & bring up errors if anything is wrong.
Like you say the manual tries to cover all versions and options. It's like checking oil level where it says in the manual to put the bike on the side stand & then tip it upright. I thought maybe that was because the centre stand is an option & not always fitted.

Think 3 year warranty saves the need to read all the manual :-) .

Ive not even started my new bike yet. But i did check the oil level. There isn't any oil showing in the window🤣
Ill run it up and check it. My 12 always clearly showed the oil in the round window.

Think it's a sort of semi dry sump. So until it's started and up to temperature you don't get an accurate reading in the site glass. Ive found that once you have done it correctly via the side stand, and holding upright, then put it on the centre stand and make a mental note of where it is. Just use that as a reference for future.

Cheers. Ill get used to it once i start using it. 👍

Picked my R1300GS up last week. Checked battery and it's AGM which wasn't discussed at order time and dealer is kindly offering to swap it out for the 'lightweight' option as it's put in the configurator and put in a lithium battery. What's the general consensus here? Apart from a few kg saving, google tells me Lithium charges faster and supports more charge cycles. Should I take up the offer? Any downsides?
