1300gs TE ASA Insurance- No Quotes !

My insurance last year for my new 1300 was £532 got my renewal from Bennetts £762,it's a year older i was expecting it to be less plus the excess is £750 that's some increase
Unfortunately it's all a bit of a lottery, based on how the underwriters see us as individual risks.

I'm with IAM Surity. When my RS was new I was part way through the year with Zenith being the underwriter. It only cost £60 to swap over from my 2020 1250 GS TE Exclusive which I was pleased with. Come policy renewal in March 2024 and Zenith pulled out of the bike insurance market and to stay with IAM Surity my only option was to have Ageas as the underwriter and the cost went up a huge amount. To be fair to Cornmarket, who act for the IAM they got it down to £277 so I stayed with them as the comparison sites were coming up with similar quotes. Fast forward to now and my insurance is due next month. IAM Surity offered £360 with Ageas or £230 with Marketstudy but with a £600 excess and no legal cover. The Bikeinsurer were coming back with quotes of under £200. So a call to Cornmarket and they've come back with a reduced price of £199 with a £350 excess that also includes legal cover and protected no claims. The moral of my story is I guess if you're not happy ring them up and see what they can do. It's a bit of a PITA but saved me some money and I got better cover too.

I tried Cornmarket,£1050 and £700 exces !!!

I think its a set up. No one leaves there bike without the steering lock on.

Just got a quote from my current insures Bikesure and it has cost me an extra £400. I don’t get my 1300 gsa asa until the 14th of June and I have just insured my current 1250gsa with them on two days ago at £251

Got the urge to chop my 1250 gsa in , tried insurance my current one wont insure a 1300 gsa , best the broker could offer was 4k

Thats a 60 year old 5 years ncd bike garaged kt postcode

I'm currently having the same fun and games.

Tried compare the market and only 1 insurer provided a quote - bike sure at £2,600 fully comp SD&P.

This was for a 25 plate 1300 TE ASA with notional value of £22k.

I'm coming back to biking after a long break so do not have any NCD.

Tried Devitt, they wouldn't quote me and I had to call them. Long story short, they had to send it to their underwriters to see if they will offer cover. I should know more tomorrow.

Tried bennetts and they want £2,200.

Figured I'd try and go with a year old bike at £18,000 value.

Bennetts want £1,800.

Tried bike sure direct, they want £1,500.

Out of interest I put a 22 plate 1250 GS in and got quotes for around £700-£850.

Glad I looked at this before ordering a bike! It may mean I need to revise my intentions of getting a 1300gs. I fully accept I will pay more for not having NCB but with the cheapest quote so far being £1,500, I'm not sure I can justify it :(

I wouldn't mind if I had any confidence it would drop a lot for year two onwards, but I suspect it won't.

I had 10 years of no claims, but none of it matters now, nor does my car no claims, so I'm having to start again, sadly.

Try this comparison site if you've not already done so

Thanks for this. Gave it a try and got 3 insurers that returned a quote with prices ranging from a little over £1,500 to just under £1,600.

Thats for a 25 plate 1300 GS TE ASA at £22k value.

Ah well - them's the breaks I guess!

MNC do a comparison site too that might be worth a try. Many insurers will either substantially increase the premium or refuse to quote altogether for bikes over 20k. Once over 12 months old and below 20k in value the premium will drop.

Ok thanks, I'll give that a try later.

Re the bike insurer site I've put through around 6 quotes now for various 1300 GS bikes of varying ages and values. I'm unable to get below £1,500 and the cheapest/oldest bike was a November 23 plate 1300 GS TE at £15,990 value.

It did, however, add a couple more insurers to the list but oddly their premiums for the older bike were £1,800+. So more expensive than some insurers are for a new 25 plate at £22k!

How long is it since you last had a bike and your NCD. Just wondering if some would still allow some NCD if you had previous proof of NCD.
Might be worth phoning a few to discuss it. ??

I had the same issues when I went to buy a bike here without any NCD. I just started with an old 2008 bike £5k and just TFT insurance. It was still £800! Just build up the NCD scam points and you will be ok in a few years. Just in time to get the new updated R1350/1400 GS in 2028.

Yeah I spoke to Devitt directly and they said they can sometimes consider previous no claims if it's only been a couple of years break, but for me it's been 11 years, sadly.

I had a fair amount of NCD previously, but I can see why the insurance companies can't accept it.

I'm waiting for Devitt to call me back as to whether their underwriters can offer anything.

Other than that I'll be phoning around when I get the time. It's not urgent, I just like to know where I stand on costs before I commit to buying a bike.

Not sure which way I'll go yet, might get a cheaper bike, 5 years old etc, or just suck it up on the insurance on a newer bike.

I'm considering the 1250gs but it needs to be the right spec and right height for me but I suppose it gives me an excuse to go looking at lots of nice bikes! :DD

So I've now heard back from Devitt and their underwriters are stating they won't insure anyone on the 1300 GS without 2yrs of consecutive riding experience (in the last few years). Shame really, given they are marketing themselves to help people exactly like me.

They have given the same reason for why they won't insure me on the 1250 GS also.

Feels like I'm being treated like a new biker with no experience who has just passed their test.

Ah well, nevermind. I'll keep looking.

Do your premiums decrease as the years progress , or do end up stuck paying the same . Just asking , as I’m happy paying £24.55 pcm

In my experience yes, especially if buying new as in many policies there's a clause that will replace the bike in the 1st 6 or 12 months if it's a total loss rather than paying out taking milage and depreciation onto account before making you an offer, plus of course as the the bike gets older it'sworth less and you've got more experience riding that particular bike.
