All,
My warranty has expired and I doubt that I will sell my GS while its still worth any thing so in order to preserve my precious coffers I am going to service my bike with my brother who unlike me knows his way around a tool kit.
Any ideas where I can get the service sheet for an 18,000 mile service? Would my local dealer supply one or do I need to engage in some kind of scullduggery........ Will I need any special tools?

Will I need any special tools?

A few, yes.

Get yourself a good set of Torx tools as the bike doesn't use hex bolts or allen bolts much, most fasteners are Torx.

Also a Torque wrench.

If you need to change your brake fluid, you will need to do your homework assuming you have servo ABS brakes - be warned !! (Some home-made tools are advisable.)

For the electronics you could find a GS911 tool useful but they are not essential.

You will need some form of manometer or tool to balance the throttle bodies for smooth running, again theres info here about how-to's for making a home made manometer. Some use a 'Twinmax' tool for this, I use a Morgan Carbtune 2 tool.

A set of metric feeler gauges to set the valve clearances.

And either a copyof the BMW RepROM disk with the technical info, or a Haynes Manual is useful.
