Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
You know, the original wheels that go fluffy during winter...

Any tips on trying to clean them up a bit...

They don't have to be shiny by the way. Just cleaner....

The only wheels that I've seen worse than mine were Rabbitsons...His are black but then so is his bike:D

Mine were looking distinctly scruffy so after giving them a good wash and scrubbing I sprayed them liberally with WD40 . I left it to soak in overnight then rubbed of the excess using a rag and finger tip circular polishing motion . They came up a treat . Now I just do this once or twice a year and they still look good.
The spokes are trickier but for the really pitted brake dirt that won't just wash off I use very fine wire wool and then WD40 them after. It may not be the most scientific solution but it works for me. It's slow graft but worth doing IMHO.
Good luck ;)

Ah but Gecko, you don't have the 1994 wheels like mine. You have the far superior ones which come up a treat. Ta for the tip though I'll give it a go...

And just for you... The big ones like this are not called Geckos by the way they have another name whiche eludes me for the moment. They are the ones however that make the GEcko sound... (Confusing)

A fine looking beast :D Did you snap that on your hols or have you got one as a pet ?

By the way your wheels look like shite - far worse than mine ever looked so I think you're right, WD40 may just not be enough :( Your brake disc doesn't look too clever either . If you need a new one try www.ks-parts.de where I got mine from. Good price and quick service too.

Yeh he was looking after our house for us... Not a fly/mosquito in sight....

As for my wheels, its no big deal really just thought maybe I'd give it a go. The disk is actually better than it looks. The bike has only done about 20miles in the last two months due to my prolonged abscence
:D

Tin of Brasso, A toothbrush, lots o elbow grease.
Leave the lot to dry then blast it off with a pressure washer.

Cleaned my dads alloys with Brillo pads once on his new black Capri 3.0 S (long time ago) . Only the once mind, 'cos it turned 'em into shyte!!

He was so mad.

I can still see his face when he came out and saw them covered in that pink foam.

:D :D :D :D :D

I cleaned off a bit of my wheel at the weekend to see how much damage the salt had done. I used a bit of Wonder Wheels liquid, rubbed it in very quickly and then removed it. Quick polish with the Metal Polish and the area was very clean, all the black bits had gone. That's on my R1100GS ('99).

Gave the bike a big clean over the weekend.

Bear in mind it's a 1999 R1100GS with 60,000 miles on the clock, used every day of the year.

I spray the wheels with WD40 in the Winter and hose 'em down when they salt the roads.

This Winter I've used the Scottoiler stuff and wondered how it was doing. Not bad, I reckon.
