My first 1500 done on my 1250 GSA and seams well apart from the horn sticking on and my biggest concern is when selecting first gear, it feels like the whole gear box is going to jump off the bike. I will bring it up when they replace the switch gear for the horn but it feels as if the clutch is not fully engaged for clicking in to first, all the other gears are fine

Yup, I know that feeling! You are not alone.

Have you ridden previous 1200 LC boxers for comparison ? Yours should be slightly better, some report the change to first gear from neutral to be better. I ask because it can be a bit of a surprise if this is your first such bike. Consequences of BMW going from a wet to dry clutch on the LC, clutch drag etc. Question is, is it worse than it should be, only you can compare by riding another 1250 to either satisfy yourself or cause greater concern. First port of call I guess is to get the dealer to look at it, more than likely response will be "they all do that sir" or advise you to give to a bit more time to bed in.

There have been plenty of threads on here discussing the very same issue.

Not wishing to spark any debate, but you should try my KTM - that's a proper clunk, no doubt that its in gear!! (by that I mean its much worse than my beloved GS)

They all do that sir......

No they don't my 2014 gsa gearbox was f*cking absolutely shocking, however, on my 2018 model gsa (without gsap) firsts engages silently with no clunk or lurching, and having tested two 1250's they had the same box as my 1200

I have never owned a bike from any manufacturer that doesn't clunk into 1st gear to some degree or other.

mine is great when cold, but does it a bit when hot... but nothing like my 15 plate did LOL

My 2014 is like that (quiet when cold, horrible when warm). If clutch plate drag was causing it, then surely it would be the other way around?

I think we all know that most bikes have a good old clunk into first. What I don't like hearing (and it was absolutely horrific on my 2013 GS) is that brick in empty cement mixer sound of God knows what is happening in there, when you select first.

I used to physically wince selecting first on my GS ....

To be fair, you cannot really compare an LC sporting a wet clutch with previous boxers and their dry clutch. The oil in the earlier bikes is more suited to the gearbox and personally I used a teflon additive made by Interflon at 3-5% by volume depending on the bike. This made a huge difference and I did not have clunking into first gear from neutral. My 2018 GSA certainly clunks when hot but not when cold, cannot do anything about it, but it is better than my 2016 RT was. Any such additive to the oil in the LC would of course slip the clutch.
