Can anyone tell me how to tell by appearance , the difference between the early servo abs and the newer version replacement fitted around 2007 ?

How are you looking…. Picture ? From across the road ? Through a shop window ? Touching distance ?

If you can put your hands on the bike, just pull the lever and hear for the servo.
I can tell you that my bike is production May 2007 and has no servo.

Not sure there is much external visual difference. If any I suspect around the rear brake circuit?

A bit of a silly question

Not really.
You could be looking at the bike, static, in person.
Or you could be looking at it from a picture on eBay.
You might be able to touch it, go around it, have a peek under the tank, etc.

In some combination (in person or pics) you could read the VIN number on the front frame, just above the tank and run that through a VIN decoder website and get the bike details.

This thread may help...?

But it’s not .. It’s in response to your ambiguous description = “by appearance”… I could tell which abs the bike has in seconds, if your standing next to it .. but that means me typing it all out explaining and then you replying “but I’m looking at a picture in an advert”

Have you buggers got nothing else better to do !! FFS by appearance means when you look at it not when you start taking it apart or firing it up

Build date after Sept '06 and it will have the newer abs

Sent with a Zen10

Pull the brake lever - if it’s a servo you’ll hear the servo run. Or ask the owner .. now fuck off

Do you lot down there not understand English ?? I said on appearance !!! If you want to tell me to fuck off why dont you stand in front of me and say that ?? Now i know where the term Tosser comes from

Its NOT that easy !! If you can take the tank off and Look then the Servo has Two reservoirs !

If you can switch it on The servo system whines when you pull the brake lever / push brake pedal

IF I recall correctly the Servo has 2 Rectangular warning lights One stays steady when you switch on the ignition the other blinks fast 7 times and then just flashes on and off

Other wise you have no visual clues without lifting the tank as they both live in front of the air box!

Understand English :D Look up appearance in the dictionary - here, I’ll help you “the way something looks” .. meaning you could be looking at a picture in an advert for the bike, or nose pressed against the window of a dealers etc etc . Now if you’d have asked, has have many many others previously, “ How do I tell if the bike has servo/abs brakes or later ABS only brakes” you’d have had an instant answer. Rather than “ask what do they look like” .. and talking of tossers, you’ll feel right at home here, with the rest of us :D
