2008/03/23 - Event - Red Kite Rally

Also just got back from the Red Kite, superb weekend, and really challenging for my first rally event, as wreford said the soil/mud was really thick and i also got bogged down in some horrible mossy gue trying to avoid what i thought was a deep puddle but as it turned out it wasnt.
I would have thought that yesterdays rally was enough to put you off another event for life. By far it was the hardest thing I have ever done on a bike; did you manage to finish all 3 laps?

On the first lap, I nearly called it a day after nearly throwing up in my helmet on the muddy hill climb (the marshalls closed that section when I had managed about 80% if it) :blast but in the end I managed to finish 2 laps before calling it a day. IMO last years Red Kite was a doddle compared to yesterdays. I did manage to get some cracking photos though while trying to keep my breakfast down. :o

Yep,
completed all three laps, i did find it hard going and i dont think i would have relished the thought of doing it on a bike much bigger, great respect for all those on the large bikes, gs,africa twin, adventura, and all the others, not forgeting wreford of course.
hope to see you all again soon on the cambria.

I know exactly where you mean - there were about 8 of us stuck in that mossy gue and it wasn't fun trying to drag an XR650R out backwards - then we all watched someone on a 250 fly through the puddle that turned out to be about 2 foot deep :spitfire :spitfire

ok. (did you find a page with ALL pictures on at all ??)
Spoke to Frank Morgan today. His dvd of ther rally will be ready by the weekend he reckons.

I fell off 3 or 4 times in about 10 yards, right in front of the guy with the video camera. So I may feature on the DVD, possibly in the "comedy out takes" section :D

That bog that Wreford got into was nasty stuff. I went over to give him a hand and got stuck in it myself, up above the knees!

It was really challenging...Managed to do all three laps on my Husaberg but didnt find people to pass until the third lap. Bumped into Mouse on a very slippery desent after he had dropped his katoom.

Just checked out the site with the photos...the fist one on the slide show is me :D

Nearly gave up on the sighting lap as I fell off in the huge puddle just on the second off-road section and was feeling very cold. As soon as I got the the bog I quickly warmed up. The only bit I really struggled with was the muddy climb with the sharpleft hander that was taken out on the second lap. fell off countless times as I couldnt get any traction and the front wheel wanted to do its own thing.

After second special on the third lap I was thinking to myself..not more offroad sections.... had enough of the mud and bog. And then there was the cold ride back to Llandovery...

Thanks to Fredkat for the lift! He managed the first hard lap but was also suffering from a cold so had to withdraw.

Well done to all of us!

Thanks

I don't know who it was or if he goes on this site, but THANK YOU. I was stuck in a bog on lap 1 and he helped me drag the bike out, but for him I would still be staring at my bike in disbelief that I could get it bogged down so far and so quickly.

Thanks

Fred

Good pics - what about the guy on the CG125 - I hope he won a prize for most hardcore bike in the event!

Looked like a black X challenge as well?

Here's some pics taken by myself and Mrs Mouse. If anyone wants a full size original, let me know the filename and I can email it to you.
