Hi

Great thread and a great looking bike.

I have just ordered an 08 gs and have a couple of questions.

You have fitted the GSA luggage, is the gs luggage a problem?

You have fitted a hugger, please give me some recommendations.

Really looking forward to the GS we have an 853 Ducati so the change will be interesting!

Regards Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for the comments, welcome to the collective and congrats on your new wheels. :thumb

I personally don't like the vario luggage system which is "standard" for the GS, it's a clever design but I find side opening panniers are hard to load and getting access to the contents when on the bike is next to impossible. When you add the fact that the left side pannier has a very small capacity because of the exhaust cut out I decided to go for a more conventionl option, initially I had Hepco and Becker system but switched to the GSA luggage when it was released as I liked the design and it's a straight fit to the bike.

Lots of information and opinions on panniers on the site, try the search function when you have a few days free.

The hugger is made by Ilmberger in Germany, it's my personal choice but there are others out there once again search is your friend :thumb:D:D

Great looking bike - best wishes - enjoy. I have an 06 Gold Wing and am thinking of changing subject to a test ride soon. Ride solo most of the time but now and again take a mate who is not that confident so how will she get on with a GS? Is it pillion friendly?

Well I'll ask Ms Cheeks to pop over and give her views later on but from my point of view it's an excellent bike for pillions as the telelever suspension eliminates frontal dive on braking and with a top box fitted he / she gets support when accelerating. :thumb

Pillioning on the 1200? Absolutely fab. With the right seats, it's super comfortable, not too much slide forward when braking. Upright position means a good view all round. Grab handles not too far back. Quite high for getting on, but Ok once you've got the knack.

Right just changed the screen over for the official BMW tinted version which I personally think looks the dogs danglies on the matt grey Thunder Cloud, in fact it seems to make the whole bike look "darker".

Have to agree Rog, looks like an absolute 'missile' :thumb

... Just needs a set of wires to complete the picture :augie

..and some grey or black matt paint for the boomerangs:D

'Sl ookin good- when you going to get it durty?

The boomerangs which I hated when I first saw them will be staying stainless, they have really grown on me and now I personally really like them.

As for getting it durty, got it out for a run today, nothing exciting and took it easy as the ribs are still tender and my right thumd was giving me bother but I'm well impressed. The new gearbox as anyone who has ridden one has already said is very smooth and the ESC is an interesting development.

Hope to get out again tomorrow with Ms Cheeks on her 650 :aidan

Looks well Roger. That screen would go well with my work uniform! All the best with it
