2008 GS1200 Heated Grips

Heated grips.

You should count yourselves lucky as they are not even an option here !!

Mind you, if they did such a thing as 'cooled' grips then i think they would sell well...........

Heated Grips (or not)

Well folks new grips fitted & software update. Guess what? just the same as before.

So its back to the drawing board! Waiting to see what BMW customer services suggests next.

Lukewarm Grips

June 08 bike with same prob, new grips fitted + new download = no change:blast
Waiting to see what comes back from BMW :(

I've noticed through 3x test rides and now owning my own that the heated grips seem to come and go with heat tensity, almost like a sensor switches them off and then back on again. Plus, I've just bought a new pair of winter gloves £70 and my hands don't get so hot now compared to when I'm wearing my summer gloves due to the extra padding in the winter gloves blocking the heat. So my experience has been...

Position 1 = summer gloves = toasty
Position 2 = summer gloves = too hot

Position 1 = winter gloves = ok ish
Position 2 = winter gloves = warm

I've also noticed that the R/H grip is hotter than the L/H. Thought I might have a slight fault but thinking about it I tend to grip more with the right hand because I'm accelerating all the time. The stronger you grip the hotter they feel.

Well Mick, 08 GSA ... best GS yet IMHO I must say :comfort

(some nice new emoticons there Paul BHT :) )

Re heated grips, ... being a serial cold hands sufferer I find the Hot Grips on the new GSA really great in fact ... they have burnt ma wee hands a couple o times before I caught them on :beerjug:

Get them checked again at yer dealer ... in fact, maybe take them to another dealer  :thumb

That is pretty much what I've found

Mine needs sorting as well, right hand grip has totally failed doesn't even get warm, left one only warm and that's with summer gloves on.

Rapid warm up on 2008 GS

The ONLY times I have tried the heated grips (so far) is as I turn the bike in the garage before parking it. Ten seconds later I realize that the grips are warm as the switch has touched my tank bag (by Bagster) when on full lock.

I found the comparison between the 1200GS and 1100S grips interesting as the 1100S felt hotter, then I put some of the Tucano Muffs over the bars on the GS and found that the grips get really hot - so am thinking that because of the handlebar position on the GS there is more airflow over my hands (even with the guards) making my hands colder - the S bodywork must have been doing a good job of deflecting the airflow around the closer handlebars.

grips 2008

Had mine and mate had his replaced last month under warranty now fine, both bikes March production.

Thought better after new grips fitted but they are just the same hardly warm up at all.

Same thing

Mine are exactly the same on my '08 model:mad:

Position 1 - only noticable on summer mornings with summer gloves
Position 2 - about the same as position 1 on my previous two GS's

I also have what I call the "frost failsafe" which means that they don't work at all if the low outside temperature warning is flashing when you start off - obviously to keep you focused;)

I have to switch off the ignition and restart to have heated grips:eek

The software has been upgraded twice :mcgun

Just saw this thread today. Exactly same experience:eek: Surprised that we appear to be the only two reporting this problem:confused:

Got the same problem with my 2008 GSA which I bought last month. The grips are nowhere near as effective as on the 1200GS which I had before.
Took the bike in for service this week and reported the problem - the dealer says they have replaced the grips but still no better than before.

I had an F800S as a loan bike whilst mine was being serviced and the heated grips on that were fantastic - so what is the problem with the ones on the GSA?

The lack of weather protection on the 800S meant that I got frozen and really showed me what good weather protection the GSA provides.

Heated Grips

I have an early 08 GS1200 and my grips wouldnt come on when the low temp warning came up, but i got it fixed yesterday at Bahnstormer with a download of the lastest software, now toastie mitts and the grips are hot. Lets see if it continues .......

I agree with this 100%...that's how it is on my 06 GSA...always thought it was 'just how they are' rather than a fault. It all depends on your gloves I would have thought? :nenau

Mines in the dealers today for its 6,000 service the ABS brake mod and hopefully to sort out the grips.
I'll let you know later if the right one is working and if it is, its gets more than tepid to touch.
