2009 R1200GS

Tossers - The definition of: bikers who own the best bikes on the planet who fantasize endlessly about 2009 bikes when 2008 bikes are not even in the showroom.

Why don't you all just get on yur bikes, and enjoy what you have NOW.

Well said:thumb

Don't really understand some of the posts on this thread i.e. wanting it to end.

Its a topic that hasn't been discussed before and it is now 6 pages 80 posts and 5160 hits.

Perhaps your happy reading "whiches" i.e. which oil, seat, screen, panniers, brake pads, service, how to run in, corrosion, corrosion again and again and again.

Why don't people just do a search and get clued up on the topic they want.

Last year I attended a presentation by Tony Jackman sales and marketing manager BMW GB. Who is an affable guy, who rides a GS as his prefered bike, looks at this forum, which is also monitored by BMW GB. He mentioned this in February 07, the Gs range would get an update in 08 to keep it fresh. the engine from the 12R would be installed as the GS was now the oldest in the boxer range.

A few GS riders present but nobody posted his comments on this site. I imagine the 12 update with standardised engine and modified gearbox would be far more refined and better than my 04 bike. I posted middle of that year that the only thing that would temp me to change to an 08 bike would be ESA it had not at that stage been announced. People posted "what do you want that for you dont need it". Some of those people then went and ordered it and one of them even watched a video on it and commented how good the video was.:D

Engines made by Rotax include Pegasso (single cylinder), Shiver (750 v twin), Millie(1000cc v twin) some say its a better engine than a Ducati. They are making a 1200 v twin and 1200 v 4. 800cc and Buell.

When senior management of any large company start to leak memo's, e mails, faxs, of the cuff remarks, or interviews, its a planned stratagy. something is going to happen, or they want a reply or comments.

Regarding "best bike on the Planet" people on this forum have sold or are selling the best bike on the planet to buy something else.

I am posting this because its cold, dark and pissing down. Someone in Malasia is reading this when its light, warm and sunny and the suggestion is "I should be out riding my bike", which I will be doing this week end doing the passes in the Lake District.

There is in the current boxer range a bike that is missing that has always been there and used to be BMW "Premier Bike" i.e. the RS. Dont be surprised to hear or see a picture alleging a "scoop" from NCM in the near future and its not a flat twin.

Off now to fantasize about riding my current bike round the alps which I will be doing late May early June.

Dennis, I was talking metaphorically, It's certainly a good bike but its all relevent anyway. As for the sun in Malaysia, granted we have a little more than you in Manchester, but 35 degrees C is not the best biking weather, and when it rains (half the year) it rains, 5" in an hour is not uncommon.
I can honestly say that from spring to Autumn the UK is a good place to be biking.

I like parrallel twins, and V's always have so bring them on. But frankley I think the will be able to delevlope the flat twin to keep up with requirements of the EU for a while yet. And when the can't Chang Jiang may finally get a new motor....

The 2009 rumours are slowing up a bit...........are people enjoying their "old style" 2008 bikes too much??

GS Monkey, why fall into the trap that BMW want you in... 08 is only just here, my 07 has a lot of life left... most of us buy BMW's precisely because there is not a new model each year like the R1. These things are suppose to last the test of time. That means not having a new model every year. Frankly spending so much time with heads stuck in a touratech catalogue or gleaning every whisper about the next model means we have fallen head and sinker into the market mans pocket. And in this case the feckers a kraot from bavaria. Sad really.

Stop dreaming about 09 and ride the pants off of what you've got, or I'll sent BMW tekky to booooooooooooore the pants off you.

Yep ! :thumb2

And I wouldn't keep my hopes up too high. The 1200GSA has been fitted with a new type of boxer engine coming from the R1200R. It's pretty much a mid-life upgrade.

Cheers
:D

Scoop... the unofficial NEW 2009 GS...

I think this looks class, all I've done is re badged a Stelvio and added a GSA beak...

It really has transformed the look of the bike........

If the Guzzi people market this properly I have a little feeling that the design people at BMW will sit up and look....

The tank looks more as one rather than the lego look of the current GS/A IMHO....

........anyway good thread. I think what I am really saying is I love my bike to bits but want it to look a little more 'classy'- something that this Guzzieemer does....

What do you lot think?

Nice looking job there.
However, I saw a Stelvio in the flesh for the first time over the Easter weekend, and it was bloody hideous (it's not that bad in the publicity photos). My Griso owning friend and his wife (Breva 750) were even less complimentary. It would take a lot more than a beak to make it look good (and the 18ltr tank is too small)

Fair point.......:(

........back to the drawing board Mr Moto Guzzi then...........:thumb2

..........unless Touratech have a few styling and tank bolt on goodies in the pipeline.....:augie

I think it's interesting to note the R GS series started with an 800, just as the new F GS model does....coincidence?

With what is in fact a detuned 800 motor.

Well if we are going to get picky...it's not actually a detuned 800 motor...'Fact'

The capacity is different. A detuned motor implies that it is the same but not as tuned...:blast

Smaller bore, stroke would be more accurate..........nice attempt at a back track though:thumb2

:D

Ok then, a motor derived from the 800, shared by the F series generally, suggesting perhaps that BMW have plans to develop it further for future models. The fairly limited tank range on the F800GS might somehow be increased to create a GSA version, perhaps if the engine is stepped up to 900 or 1000cc.

Or I'm talking utter bollocks.

Oh...now I see where you are taking this....:thumb2

No no bollox at all...I agree about the GSA version....but it'll have to be some bike as it looks like a capable off road machine in standard guise...

As we all know the difference normally between a GS and Adventure is the off road capability...

A GSA version would be interesting none the less....how the BMW boffins do this...If they have got one in the pipeline then they have shot themselves in the foot when it comes to the beak as it already has that black extension bit..:blast....I'll have a play on the photoshop thingey and get back to you...

Well, we all know this could not possibly be the new model. The price for the Stelvio rise by 50%, just by adding the BMW badge and beak.

But..... I do have the new GSA pics for the model that should be introduced in 2011.

Here it is folks, the R2200GSADVanced. Rail guns are option. What is thy bidding ? :D

The Tenere pic could be closer than you think. Yamaha are launching a 1200 version at the end of the year apparently, and maybe BMW are thinking of that by first introducing a 800/650 range, which could be complemented by a 1000 or 1200 long distance version. A 1200 Tenere would probably be much lighter than a current 1200GS and maybe BMW are worried about losing sales.

Forget Batman.........nowhere to put the panniers and pillion...

F800GS /A.......2009?

XT660 T- clone?

or a very slightly tweek'd GS...

Captain! I'll take both. I already have a brilliant 1200, so a second lighter one will do for now..... :D
