2010 6000 service

2010 6k service for me today was £297 all in at SBW which I thought wasn't bad all considering. Apparently service schedule depends for 2009 models is now bike specific rather than generic I'm told.

Just been quoted £250 for a 2010 GS for 6000miles Service combined with the anual Service, all Fluids inc. Brakes,Valve Clearance etc.Oh and a free Loanbike plus all done on a saturday:)Suits me Sir,all at Motorrad Central East,Dalkeith.Better take it to keep all future Warranty Claims if needed(You never Know.....Brillant Bike anyhow:) by the way the Conti Trail Attacks have still got plenty Life in them, and i find them very good. Tara:beerjug:

It's a fact. Part of Block Exemption which came into play a few years back now.

If your bike is covered by the 2yr manufacturers warranty, providing genuine parts are used, the schedule is followed and the person carrying out the work is competent, then your warranty is not affected (you will of course need some proof of the servicing done should your engine go bang or whatever, they won't just take your word for it).

BUT - if its covered by the BMW extended warranty which you can buy after the two years manufacturers warranty expires you must have it serviced at a dealer to keep it valid. This is an insurance product and as such they can name their own terms ... one of which is you must have it serviced by a BMW dealer as per the factory schedule.

Sorry Sarg - no insult intended.

Mrs C - Thank you for the comprehensive answer.

jokes! mine was 130 quid and a clean bike on collection! Also got the hire bike from Vines Guildford for £5 a day. will so go there again

Adventuredon can you perhaps give us a run down on what was done to your bike from the invoice so we can compare? I had service, oil change, valve check, gearbox oil, brake fluid front and rear. £85 parts, £163 labour, VAT £49 = £297. Cheers

Why was the gearbox oil changed at the 6k mark? Usually its 24k miles or every two years.

ok, me bad. Mine was actually 178.40 incl vat etc. Not really sure what we are going to solve here but I haven't got much else to do...
Engine oil change and filter 22.05
bmw service 27.57
valve clearnce 22.05
oil 3.8 litres - 37.04
seal 31.67
seal ring 0.23
oil filter 6.97
hire bike £5
All in total 178.40 great sevice, great price

Hi Bob - reading the bill the gearbox change was about £10 - about where the price of petrol is going to get too

Adventuredon it seems more or less the same with mine being a couple of pounds more for items. The main difference being that they bleeded and replaced the front and rear brake fluids. Always good to have brakes! I guess you don't use yours. :augie

Later models have the gearbox oil & brake fluid changed intially after 1yr & then every 2yrs or 24k.
Increased service costs will be due obviously to VAT rises, cost of the oil specified for DOHC engines etc etc

my brakes were inspected and front and rear pads were 10% worn, all others in good condition. Not sure what that says. Front tyre 3mm depth and rear 5mm. Standard tyres from new. Conti Attac..

Thanks for clarifying that Skywalker:thumb2

here we go again - apparently the ruling bodies tell us we can have our expensive bmw motorcycles serviced at independent garages provided they use OEM parts - in the real world how do you think bmw will consider a warranty claim if your said expensive bike is seviced outwith the bmw network - not very sympathetically i would imagine - so its up to you the discerning bmw owner to make that decision - personally i will have the bike serviced by bmw until the two year warranty expires - thereafter i will take my chance with the independants
