Many thanks for the quality info, guys!

I'm thinking of using 3000 micromesh wet 'n dry and then compound the bugger, but like the WD40 option so will give that a go first.

I won't bother contacting BMW cos I know they will turn the whole bloody thing into a drama, even though I'm using cleaning products that they recommend!!!

Gawd help us!

I will let you know if I bugger it up :blast

Try just a micro fibre cloth with just Wd or something similar before getting abrasive with it.

I suspect a spray and a wipe with wd40 or some silicon spray will make it disappear but it will come back.

I'm not sure on the armour all product, but it looks to me like it's been washed with muc off as that's exactly what it does. Seems to attack the top layer and leave a Matt finish. Wd40 or similar will make it look good again but not repair the finish.

Don't do anything to it take it back to the dealer show them what you cleaned it with try for a warrenty clam
If they refuse get in touch with the cleaning products company ask them why It went like that
As for muc off I once used it Never again
I use simonize car shampoo from costco used it years and find its the best stuff for me a gallon costs about £5
Good luck

AutoGylm motorcycle cleaner for me. Never had a problem and always has given great results and I wouldn't use anything else.

DO NOT use any wet and dry it ill remove to much paint , I had the same after washing it with muc off and leaving it in sun to dry , just give it a good rub with a good wax and it should restore OK if not a light rub with T-cut and then a polish will but do not rub to hard you do not want to remove to much paint and will not have to .
PS to stop this happening again polish the part with a good wax a few times and it will protect it

Just an update.
WD40 isn't doing the trick as hoped.
I'm going in with T-Cut and polish next.

Cheers,
Bob

Why did you think it would?:blast

WD40 - It's an oil based lubricant/moisture repellant:rolleyes:

Not a fecking polish or paint restorer

Some advice on this thread makes me chuckle, some guys think WD40 is like 'magic beans' and it isn't

You want a very light T Cut or similar compound polish and something like a wax based 'Black and Shine', however it may never return to factory finish and some acid/alkali reaction has taken place and short of a respray, it is hard to counter, what you have mistakely done :D

At trade-in time, any dealer worth his salt - is going to have a field day marking the bike's value down:P

You're being a bit doom and gloom today Jonny...not like you!

The two most important tools required in a tool kit..
1. WD40
2. Gaffer tape.

1. It it doesn't move and it should use WD40
2. It it moves and it shouldn't use gaffer tape.

If you are going to go down the compound route use Farecla Scratch Remover liquid, it's an ultra fine liquid polish, this will sort it without any issues, and much better than T-Cut. Also good for getting scratches out of screens.

Silicon based bumper back to black spray should do it

Personally, I would spray it with FS365 and leave it covered in crud :comfort

I will give that a go. Cheers!

I won't be trading it in with a BMW dealer, so no big issue there. And if need be, I will strip the back end and prime and respray the complete housing. At least I know the paint will last more than three fucking months without looking like someone has ejaculated all over it.

Other than me making the mistake of trying to keep my bike clean, I'm very pleased with my TE. Engine is bedding in nicely, gearbox is improving with milage and the grin factor when giving the bitch a squirt makes up for all my mistakes trying/failing to keep the bike clean.

Happy days!
