Is there a significant difference between the very latest GS to the 2013 that I have?
Mine is a rare bird because it is a standard model without ASC. My reasoning at the time I got my bike was that if I needed a nanny to keep me safe it was time to give it away.
Am I a dinosaur?

There is not a massive difference between them, I had the most basic 2013 bike and now have a 2015TE. The TE has the active suspension, traction control etc. I do like the active suspension though, and it is worth getting particularly if you do two up touring with luggage, it is just more convenient than manual adjusing the preload and rebound damping each time you change the loading. Note also the base model LC has no front suspension adjustment, the TE does.

One downside of the active suspension is that it could cost an arm and a leg to fix if it fails outside warranty!

Big difference!

This web article gives a brief summary of the 2016 changes across the range.

2013 - 2015/16 big difference - gearbox issues far less / invasive, heavier crank smooth's the engine noticeably TE definitely worth the premium. would be nice to thing BMW have the corrosion issues under control but that will only be proved over time. Mines an early 2014 model fitted with a 2015/16 engine & gearbox which was swapped under warranty

Also later models have the steering damper.

I had a '13 model for a while but then bought a '15 with heavier crank - vast improvement in low speed tractability, especially in crawling traffic.

Do the later models still have an engine that sounds like the big end bearings are rattling at idle when hot ?

That's what you pay £15k for - its a feature...
Much more refined, but still unmistakably a GS with all the familiar clonks, but I think less rattly than pre LC. Once you get above 30mph the Anakee 3s drown out the engine and transmission noise anyway...

Yes!

yes, they do rattle at low revs off load when hot but not as loudly as the earlier 2013 engines. I am told its the exhaust valve de-compression mechanism which has a centrifugal arm on it, its a really basic way of handling decompressing the engine on start up (quite often found on cheap lawnmowers) the cockpit fairing on the GS tends to amplify it. ignore it / put it down to character! I somehow don't think the Lc's are as well built as previous engines sadly
