Went to update to 2017.10 maps this morning and its 6.7gb and wont fit on unit....so I said 'yes' to putting it on the SD card....and it says it can't find it.

I'm on a Mac and the Mac can find both the SD card (in the Nav V) and the Nav V itself without issue. There's also plenty of space on the SD card.

Any ideas / similar problems / solutions !

Had that happen with a 64gb card, worked fine on my 32gb, then I transferred the data over to the bigger card on my computer.

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

I'm using a 32gb card currently....and only added some music to it the other day, which worked fine :(

Basecamp also finds the SD card....its just Garmin Express that appears to be completely blind...

How has the SD card been formatted? If you are using it on a Mac then the default may not be the FAT32 format that the Nav V requires

Yes, formatted to MS-DOS Fat32 on the mac....but that's a moot point as its been working fine with the music on it for over a year, so the NAV V can read it fine.

Just swapped the card for another card (smaller but 16gb so plenty big enough) and same thing ?!

I seem to remember this happening last time we had a massive update and I needed to use Garmin MapInstaller. I can't remember how I downloaded the map in the first place though - any ideas ? Garmin Express won't let me get past "Choose whether to put on SD card or put partial maps on" - so I can't use that.

Any suggestions ? Current map showing in Basecamp is 2016.3

Bollocks - should have done a search first on here....

Go to advanced in Garmin Express and download to the computer only. I should then be able to use MapInstall to put it on the SD card....as that seems to recognise the card in my Nav V....back later with (not) exciting update !

There was a thread about deleting and reinstalling Garmin Express. Also check manually for updates on it once installed and try again. Garmin express cog thing top right of screen, about, then check for update. Hope this helps:thumby:

Delete and install Garmin Express, fixed my 660 with same SD card recognition issue.

Garmin Express did flag for an update when I restarted my Mac and I did that update but I'll try the full delete and install once its finished downloading the map to my computer (90% done now).

Cheers

I updated Garmin on both my lap top and then, later, on my Nav V.
Windows 10 then wanted to update and now Basecamp won't run!
F***ing software!!!!

Take the MP3 files off till you're finished.
I know it shouldn't matter but it worked with my 660.

God this is frustrating !

So - Finished downloading and I used MapInstall (Garmin) to install onto the SD card - took a while but installed. Rebooted the Nav V....and its still pointing at the old maps. How do I get the Nav V to point to the nicely installed maps on the SD card ?!

Deleted and reinstalled Garmin Express.....same thing - doesnt find SD Card.

I'll try the removing of music files but anyone know how to manually switch the Nav V to point to SD card to pick up the new maps ? (that are now on the card)

Map settings, tick the version you want to use? Sounds like you've got 2 map sets one on device & one on the card

There are only 2016 maps listed....which are the ones on the Nav V unit - it doesnt seem to 'look' at the SD card. Tried unticking them to see if it would force it to refresh its known list of maps - then reset device.....came back up with the 2016 ones again..

Removed the MP3 files.....no different...

Removed device from Garmin Express....no different..

Was just a thought because I had issues with the app so deleted it & used the download. Not sure if the app is still available.
