2017.10 Map Update - not finding SD card ?

Appologise i was indeed wrong, You can increase your logical sector size or your cluster size. A 4K logical sector size or cluster increases the limit to 32GB. With 64KB cluster size, the maximum file size is whopping 128GB. However, some programs and drivers still will not be able to handle large files on FAT32 even with these options.

You also need a special formatting tool to be able to use these formats. The mkdosfs utility distributed with Linux will allow you those options. so it appears at the moment max file size is 128gb if you increase the cluster size.

Max recommended size is 64gb but my card is 32gb and I tried a 16gb also.

its the maximum single file size you can have on the fat32 system i was refering to, and not the maximum card size that you could use in the nav Flipper, and have you had any news from garmin yet.

Garmin have responded.....almost a joke really:
1. Update software to latest version
2. Master reset of unit

Good to see that Garmin arent wasting money on support services......complete waste of space.

Thats a typical e mail answer you may be better off speaking to them, this might be worth a try, the old.gma file thats on your sd card the one dated 23 march 2015, make a copy of it and place the copy safe and then delete the one off the sd card, see if that helps if not coppy it back from the safee place. its just a thought as it maybe reading from that and not the new one.

Just doing this update myself now, and you probably sorted it. But, you could just select the maps you want e.g. just Western Europe, rather than the whole lot?

Not yet - using the thing and didnt want to feck it up whilst away ! I'll have a go next week and report back.

I did see you could choose smaller maps but I'm a bit OCD about stuff like this - it should bloody find the SD card and put them all on there if the option is available ! The SD card is plenty large enough to stick them all on there etc. Having said that.....the likelihood of me doing a tour that encompasses ALL of the map region is zero....its the principle !

Just to say I'm exactly at this point as well.
I've rebuilt my Mac so installed the Garmin Exoress software again.
Hadn't connected my Nav V for some time so it needed updates.
Have previously updated it using the SD card with this same Mac without issues.
The Mac can see the SD card but Garmin Express can't see it and use it.
Did you get anywhere with a solution?

Just tried my windows PC and it worked first time without issue.

Only just got back home - will try this week and report back...

Just got a new Mac as well - so it'll be interesting to see if this one 'sees' the card...

No good again. New Mac mini (for me) and same issue. So its Master Reset time...

I power off.....then press bottom right and then hold power button until BMW image comes up, I release power button and a little 'System' word appears top-middle of the screen and proceeds to shuffle down the screen a few times (kinda Space invader style). I've tried waiting until it stops moving and releasing pressure from bottom right of screen, I've tried releasing as soon as I see the 'System' word. But the thing just boots up as normal - all my favourites and settings there. So I dont believe it reset.

Any ideas ?

Try removing the battery for a few hours & try the master reset again. Failing that I think a call to Garmin is on the cards. The master reset should ask if you want to delete all data.

I've dropped a reply back to the crappy response from Garmin with similar.

I'll try the battery overnight and report back.

Might be better to speak with Garmin so they can give some hands on help to find out why it won't do a hard reset. How old is the device?

I think it's a Mac / Garmin problem.
As I say I switched to a Windows PC and it all worked immediately.
So I suspect that Garmin express is broken with a recent Mac OSX update or something like that.
Especially as the SD card can be seen in OSX and written to.
If you have a Windows PC lying around try that.
