2019 RT LE

Picked
up the RT today. Now fully sorted. Rides very well, although when paddling it about the HSC is a PITA so must turn that off. Not as sporty as the RS (obs) but way more comfortable...I like it...seems a good 'un.

Looks mint

Well wear.....

It's not too far off, not bad for a 5 yr old. Had the panels off to check condition and looked underneath the bike too...thankfully, corrosion free. The odd mark on paintwork, but nothing major. Battery has leaked at some point (possibly replaced) as deposits evident at bottom of battery cage but will soon clean that up. Someone's fitted a permanent live connector which is handy for the compressor, and it came with a Datatool alarm which I may disconnect. Wheels are spotless. Need to fit bars as next priority along with grip puppies.

Now have several hundred miles under the RT and loving every mile on it. The farkling has started, so I have added:

- Wunderlich crash bars;
- Pyramid fender extender;
- grip puppies

Recently reset throttle bodies and that was the final piece of the jigsaw to removing the vibration I had felt on the test rides, along with the major one which was out of balance wheels being removed and rebalanced. Lovely and smooth now, no more tingling digits!

Rear brake was getting way too hot and seizing on, so stripped calipers, removed and cleaned up pistons. Seals fine, pistons undamaged but corrosion and gunk built up around pads, which were damaged and calipers filthy. Everything cleaned and I'll be fitting nw EBC 2H pads this afternoon, so hopefully the rear brake woes will be sorted.

I've left in in Dynamic setting and suspension to Auto. Handles fabulously.

Not impressed with the lights though so may change the main bulb to a xenon, and add auxiliary lamps (generic led versions from ebay via a separate switch and relay) now that crash bars are fitted.

For me, the RT lays somewhere between my old GSA (for the comfort) and the RS (for the sporty handling and planted feeling in bends).

Must admit that the switch to the 1250 lump was very worthwhile. It seems much quieter (not like the blacksmiths forge on overtime that the 1200 lump was) and smoother, with a useful surge in linear power delivery. Fuel economy for the past few hundred miles has settled to just under 56mpg.

Weather protection is epic. Cracking bike.

That's a useful assessment. I'm currently (mostly) riding an Africa Twin adventure sports which replaced my R1200RT LC. I still have a 22 year olD R1150GS and will probably go back to an RT when I've grown tired of the AT. (y) Regarding the headlights on that version of the fairing they are a bit of a pain to access to change the bulbs. I put Osram night breakers in mine which were an improvement from what was fitted.

You could bite the bullet and fit Cyclops LED lights… not cheap, but save you the awful job of replacing headlights for some considerable time. .

I did consider that, but may just use the standard ones for now with an inexpensive ebay special for auxiliary lights. Simple to fit and wire up. Biggest pain is panel removal for cable routing but even that's preferable to turning the air blue trying to switch standard bulbs out! Looking at what's involved for the standard lights, I may only switch out the low beam bulb which is not too bad a job for a xenon.

Strange as the headlight on mine (same year) is the best bike headlight ive ever used.
How did you re set the throttles?

Mine aren't much cop. The newer LED optional ones on 2021 onward bikes are very good. The GSA, even older 1200's with the LED option, were superb. I know that some people have replaced the dip bulb on their RTs with a xenon or LED one which is reputed to be a worthwhile upgrade. TB's needed a GS911 to reset them from the menu. Took 5 minutes but definitely smoothed out response a little more. I checked the bike history and it had never had a TB rest done so I thought it couldn't hurt.

I'm with you, lights on the pre 21 bikes are rubbish. I fitted Denali D2 spots for drl and nighttime help. Also use my aux spots at night on very dark lanes.

Had a 200 mile jaunt yesterday, coming home as it got dark. The lights just aren't up to much. Bike is brilliant in every other respect!
