2020 KTM 1290 Superduke vs 2019 1250 GS-HP

Steve around 170 hp would be perfect because with these upright bikes it does not matter if you have more because you can't accelerate harder without the electronics cutting out power to prevent wheelies...150,160,170 hp to have a fun top-end pulling hard all the way to 9000 rpm with 1000 rpm over-rev up to 10000 rpm in combination with the already strong low 3000 to 7000 mid-range TORQUE would make the boxer the perfect motorcycle engine for road-riding...I.M.H.O.
Look even Ducati capped 40 hp from the Panigale to give the new MS-V4 170 hp for the reasons mentioned above I would guess...The 1250GS has already more Torque but a stronger top-end would even be more fun !

Nutty of course 17" front to fit some sticky rubber to do some occasional track-days...:thumb2
A R1300S like the R1100S back in it's day would be also a great addition for people not sold on the more upright XR type seating position...:thumby:
But that bike might be only a dream...;) As they rather waste their R&D money on junk like the R18 or F750/850/900 with chinese made engines...:D

I think you are missing where BMW position the GS/GSA in their range. Anyway, the days of the ICU are numbered here in the UK.

Ducati haven’t capped 40hp from the Panigale -the Multi V4 has a totally different engine to the Pani to make it more usable and have much bigger service intervals. The main difference being that the Multi doesn’t have the desmodromic valves seen in the Pani.

Arsey you know what I meant when I said the capped 40 hp from the Pani V4...And the MS engine is better for it.Enough power, more torque and no more expensive to maintain desmo-B.S....The bar is raised to 170 hp in the GS class...!
I still don't want a MS-V4 though...

Maybe Chinese engines will be better than the junk the Germans currently churn out?
The previous boss of BMW cars was on the radio today... "Cars designed for a 10 year life span"... If only that were true for their bikes!

A BMW with a taiwanese made engine is not a BMW but a CMW...As for I.C.E. engines for BMW cars the germans are so stupid and fall for the C02/man man global warming/bankster enriching cap & trade hoax that they will make their gas and diesel powered car engines in Austria and the U.K. from 2024 on loosing Thousands of jobs to the electric crap nobody will buy...Only a few idiots in Kalifornia as also in Bruessel paid by the EU taxpayers...
And for GS's that should last 10 years or more I know a few guys that still ride their 2005,2010 and 2013 1200GS as daily commuters...

Yep. My 82k, 21 years old,1100gs still runs like a new one. We won't be saying the same about these latest bikes in 20 years!

The new ones don’t even make it out of warranty before they need new engines! :D

There's echo's in here of when I started my first job in 1977 - the old guys would say that the new cars won't do the miles that the last ones would, which incidentally would drop exhaust valves at 70k miles and be totally fcuked at 100k - if they didn't drop the valve. Funny thing was is that my 'new' car did 155k miles before I sold it - without a single breakdown.

My SC hexhead was on 72k miles when I sold it (new clutch @ 65k). My first LC was on 32k miles when it was stolen, if it hadn't been stolen I'd still have it @ around 48k. My 1250 as of today is on 11k.

None have had stellar mileages, but none have been money pits either.

Well said and pointed out 👍

If Boxerlust does come and rent a 1250GS ill buy a KTMSDR and go up for the laugh

I’d just put some smaller wheels on my 501 and blow him away on that. Andres can borrow a motard of some description and we can tag team the gobby fucker so he goes home in tears :beerjug:

I've heard that BMW issue a certificate to anyone who manages to nurse a 1250 to 12k miles on the original engine.... Nearly there

I got 12K on my 1254 GS now...No problems at all except for excessive rear tire wear...:D
A friend of mine has 106 K miles on his 2016 R1200GS-ADV....All he needed was a new clutch at 100K...:thumby:
There is a reason the R1200/1250GS are the best selling bikes above 1000cc worldwide despite the tales of the muppet-brigade...;)
Only premature defects I know of from people I actually know was one tooth missing in a timing gear that was obviously a manufacturing defect and replaced under warranty(2014GS),one cam that had some wear from a bad batch (2016 GS)and one alternator that got fried where the engine had to be split but this was rider error because he used jumper cables because his battery was dead from a friendly fellow on the road in a car(2015GS-ADV)...

Dave, that's what we all instinctively think but we'd miss him if he went. He's our virtual village idiot... I know it's a bit wrong, but we can have a bloody good laugh at him and feel better about ourselves
