2021. 1250 shaft failure

Well then, what does the owners manual say about rain setting? Would it cause damage to the drive train? I would ask him to back it with technical literature and put his words on paper. Then escalate this to the dealer principal. He can fuck off in the mean time.

well said Sir :okay

He said fucking what ?

:jes:jes:jes

+ 1 .....exactly , what a load do BS! RAIN makes the throttle response and power delivery softer so it would be kinder to the mechanicals. It does still allow full power and torque but it would lessen the immediate load on the powertrain not increase it.

Anyway , so long as the dealer replaces the whole driveshaft etc under warranty problem solved, why would they have to give a refund. Replacement and courtesy bike, faulty parts replaced ..... all good , carry on as normal . These things can, and clearly do , happen .

Especially on BMWs :P

Shouldn't happen on a 20k + bike at all in any circumstance... your dealer/salesman is taking the piss.

I’d reject the bike for two reasons:
1. The defective driveshaft. It is far from being a minor problem. I would spend the rest of my ownership listening out for every little knock and whine having lost confidence in the bike.
2. The dealer’s attitude to such a significant defect. It is surely a wind up? How reassuring is it that any minor problem will get looked at under warranty

Surely that quote is worth repeating to MCN or suchlike... Thats an amazing statement for them to make however ill informed.

Good to see BMW's cost cutting continues on non-essential parts of the bike.

RBW.

Seriously if a dealership gave me that bs I would laugh in their face and tell them to show me where it was written down and then go to the press . It is a load of utter bollocks .

I would tell them to repair it but insist in writing that any component in the assembly that has even the slightest mark on it from rhe failure is also replaced.

I would also make a complaint against the dealer to BMW as their flippant attitude is completely inappropriate as the failure could easily have more serious consequences if it had happened at high speed

This reminds me of Toyota dealer 15 years ago. I purchased brand new Avensis and in first week I've done highway trip and couldn't go over 60mph as the front was shaking badly. Paid on independent tyre shop to balance all four tyres but they called me to get inside and showed my on balancing machine how the tyres were squared while rotating. Back to Toyota dealer and they said I must have damaged the tyres because the thread was worn more at one spot then on the rest of the tyre on all 4 of them. I was so surprised by stupidity of that statement that I needed few seconds to recover. After I did, the rest was like this:

Dealer: You did something to ware the part of the thread and now your tyres are completely squared.
Me: I did "something"? "Something" like what?
Dealer: For example, hard braking with tyres slipping for 100 meters or more.
Me: "Tyres slipping"? You must be joking. My new car has ABS and there is no way to turn it off.
Dealer: Well yes, but if you go bellow 10mph ABS will not activate.
Me: I believe so but how could I slip the tyres if I hit the brake below 10mph?
Dealer: Well, you can. For example, on gravel road.
Me: So, you are saying that I was going below 10mph on gravel road, then hit the brakes hard, then car started to drag the tyres and done that for 100 meters. After that tyres got squared.
Dealer: Yes
Me: Can I please talk to cheaf of your department?
Dealer: That would be me.

At that point, the conversation was over. Letter to main national dealer and two weeks later they called me to stop by to install 4 new tyres. I believe they play their game counting on lack of knowledge of majority of their customers and sometimes it works.

Is this post for real?

A brand new bike with failed splines AND a dealer that serves some utterly BS for no reason since it would be a clear case of mothership coverage, all in the same package ?

It’s called The World of BMW and Pete signed up for the full experience.

It crossed my mind but he is a paid subscriber?

That is true.
However, the forum is blessed with several other subscribes that contributes with nothing but silly comments and BS. There are probably more trolls in here than broken splines out there...

That’s what he said when he call me back a few hours ago , and they would not consider replacing the bike , these things happen he said

Pete

Not being funny, is this a wind up? I can't imagine any dealer washing their hands of this kind of problem on such a new bike.

According to Wikipedia Trolls originate in Scandinavian countries, I think we may have at least 1 member from Norway on this forum, maybe he could pop outside look under some local bridges or in caves to see if anything horrible is lurking in the shadows and report back .

He could try and find his sense of humour, hidden under a rock whilst he’s at it :-)

How dare you Arsey.. I've never known such trollery.

Clearly it’s a random failure that once fixed does not indicate the bike would be any less reliable than the next one. Why is everyone so obsessed with rejecting stuff that is simple to fix and has no likely ongoing implications. Probably it’s either a hardening issue or the shaft was not fully on the splines etc from manufacture.

The guy at the dealership however needs replacing as he likely has ongoing reliability issues and should be rejected forthwith.

Ps ( I lube my splines ) shhhh
