2024 Himalayan 450

TKC80s on my MK1 Himmie were surprisingly good on tarmac. I never used them off road but they are well rated by those who do.
Unless it's wet grass or mud, in which case they are next to useless. This applies to any 50/50 tyre no matter what the manufacturer claims.

I use them myself and they are almost footrest scrapingly good on dry roads, tolerable on wet roads and fairly good on dry off road.

I loved the Heidenaus, last for yonks.
I like the Conti Trailmax too.
I always get tubeless even if I chuck a tube in.
Hthy. Folks say Heidis dont grip in the wet etc. I dont hang about whatever the weather never had much of an issue with either of the above. On trails of tarmac on r80GS and me sertao

Personally I like the Mitas E07+ (not the Dakar version) which have now been renamed the ENDURO TRAIL+ Gives really good road handling on my 701 and should be more than up for any light off roading you would do in the Picos.

Thanks guys.
I’d probably opt for the TKC70s over the 80s as I think they’ll be more usable for me on the road but still ok on tracks/trails

Not heard of the Mitas but I see the 07 is 50/50 whereas the 07+ is 60/40 so same as the TKC70.

I also read that there now OE fitment on KTM 890 Adventure R.

Insurance.

So I've just come off the phone after a marathon session...

The comparison sites don't yet have the 450 on their database. Nor does IAM Cornmarket. The guy at IAM Cornmarket would not even contact the underwriters because it's not listed . Say what? :eek

I finally got a deal from Bikesure for £137. He did speak to the underwriters. He also offered free cancellation and full refund if I get a better deal elsewhere before the policy kicks in at the end of next week.

RE should be having a word with the UK trade body for motor insurers to ensure they have the new bike on their books. It could be a source of grief for others too!

Great vid including an interview with Marc Wells, the Chief Design Engineer of RE who is one of the riders .

Do we now get the distinct impression that Arsey knows that the 450 is:

A. A different bike to the 411

B. A better bike than the 411

C. A GS slaaaaaaaayer

Never ridden the 411,but the 450 will go places a GS won’t for 25% of the purchase price.

But mate, it’s only like 45 horses and it’s made in India, which is shiiiite, like China *.

* This doesn’t apply to knock-off brake levers, which are the dog’s.

Had a few hours spare today so tried one, I covered around 80 miles on it. Must admit it is a charming bike and in no way do you feel short changed, good brakes, good handling (no fork dive) , excellent comfort, fast enough, nice gearbox. Acceleration seemed to tail off in higher gears but it got to 70 quickly and could sit there no probs. On a stretch of dual carriageway I noticed a few annoying vibes at 6k revs through the foot-pegs initially, perhaps a newish (200 miles on clock) cold engine as these weren't as obvious on the tail end of the test ride on same dual carriageway stretch. The indicator arrows in the dash are on the small side. I reckon all these buyers will be very happy, it seems a very versatile and accomplished bike with plenty of character in the mix.

That was my ONLY complaint-the indicator arrived on TFT are too small !

Toying with getting one or were you just tyre kicking ?

toying with the idea of getting the white camouflage one, not sure which way it will go as I would NOT be selling the GS , it would be an addition to the fleet, I'm semi retiring after 33 years with my employer in Aug so likely to have more time for hobbies/bikes etc. Will mull it over this week.
