I just put 22.34 litres in my 1200 and was wondering if anyone else has put in more? As I am a fuel gyppo.

Any takers?

have you drilled the holes in the filler neck yet. makes it easyer to get it full right up.. i always get 22+ litres in got 21.84 in today with 29 miles still showing on the countdown, most i have done is 5 miles with it on vero on the countdown, still fuel in there.

managed to get 24.30 litres in my varadero a few weeks ago - tank holds 25L

Lots of information, not much of it relevant :D

Mine's a standard 1200 and I've run it on after the light for about 10 miles and got to 22.34 litres. I was wondering if anyone had done more to avoid actually running out. The BMW handbook is very vague about the actually capacity of the standard fuel tank!

Richie, The 12 is a good bike when it runs but I've had a few problems (although I must admit I do thrash it a bit and I've done about 24,000kms this year so far on it) I do like it, but it's cost me a bit in repairs (my fault probably for buying a bike with only a few months warranty left on it). Clutch, shaftdrive and switchgear on one side have been replaced so far.

The 1100 (and your exhaust) are still in my garage awaiting attention (After a major electrical failure which prompted the 1200 purchase in the first place). The problem with the 1100 is an emotional one, i.e I like the old beast too much to sell it or junk it, but I'm always out on the new bike so I haven't repaired it.

How's Ireland / life?

Posted this comment last January - see "1200GSA fuel"

"Today I performed the acid test, armed with a can containing about 4 litres of best unleaded in one of the boxes, I ran the tank dry. So now I know! ( on R1200GS not GSA)
After zero on the countdown tripmeter, on fast-ish A & B roads, I can get another 24 miles before the tank is dry.
That equates to well over 2 litres by my reckoning, nearly half a gallon!!!
I think that is worth knowing for when I'm in the back of beyond with a low tank, eh!"

Mind you, I've run out of fuel twice since then, so I don't think the bloody thing is that accurate------

Hi David,

I commute weekly from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore about 365km from home to office. This is close to the range of my tank depending on throtle wrist.

On a recent trip when I had fueled up the night before and close to home, I went onto reserve at 330km and refuled at 375km taking 18.7 liters. This was on side stand. My fuel indicator was telling me I still 38km left in the tank. (I worked that out to be about 54mpg).

The road to Singapore is good expressway 1km from my home all the way to Singapore. There are no towns to pass through as the expressway bypasses everything so speed is pretty constant at between 110 and 140km/h.

A few months back I missed my fuel stap about 5 km after going onto reserve, next stop was 68km down the road I made it with 3 km showing on my reserve and a large brow of sweat. Pushing a fully loaded GS12 in 33 degree trpical heat is not fun. I filled up on the center stand and brimed it, but sadly cant remember exacty what I put it, but I do remember thing that it was more that the total capacity mentioned in the owners book so it was 22 plus.

Anyway, I hope these figures help in your quest. Fyi fuel is 27p a liter out here, but a GS cost 14k plus pounds.... swings and roundabouts...

Got 32.27 ltrs into my 1200GSA.....................luckily the Zumo "miles to petrol station" showed less miles than the bike's "remaining miles", but it was a worrying few miles :(
