Hi Folks, i have had my 2610 for a few months and just mastering basic functions for now.

However i have a trip to scotland this weekend coming.
I want to add in the waypoints for both our BnB's.. and then when on route after lunch,

Get teh 2610 to autoroute too the BnB.. can this be done and if the answer is yes, then whats the basic procedure.

I had a try today and didnt manage it...

Cheers John.

GsPS waypoint

John

If you are en-route and already have the B&B waypoints stored on your GPs......all you do from wherever you have stopped for lunch is ...press "menu"......press "new route"........... press "go to" and enter city and address of B&B and it will automatically calculate your route. Make sure that you have your routing tabs set up i.e the type of roads you wish to travel on and also shortes/ fastest route etc.

Hope this helps.

Waypoints

Cheers..

Umm do you have to enter the address, or if you have set up a Waypoint can you select the waypoint?

Will try to give it a try..

So far has only used routes i have created on the PC and uploaded, havent really played with the more advanced stuff yet.

Cheers

John

2610 Waypoints

John

You can enter the street and house number or just use a waypoint that you have created on your PC and transfer to your GPS.

I notice that you are in Scotland this weekend............I am also going with a group of guys..........If you are passing the Glencoe Hotel call in and have a coffee.

Instructions to add a waypoint to a route

First of all enter the waypoints of the places you want to stop at into the GPS. Then setup / activate the route to your destination. When the route is running press and hold the menu/route button to get the active route menu, select add/edit vias, press add via point and then find. Scroll down to find waypoints, select waypoints and scroll to find the stop you want. Press add as via and then if you have more than one way point you can use the up / down arrow to move the order. Select done when finished.

Sounds complicated until you try it, is quite logical once you have done it once or twice. It does not matter when you add the waypoint as it will calculate from your current position. You can either add it in at the start of your route, or ride until you are ready then add it in.

Have fun.

Andrew.

Sunny scotland..

Thanks guys.. that sound just the bit i was looking for. Willtry it out in the car this week.

Yep.. myself and some riding friedns (6 people, 5 bikes) will be departing chester M56 services at 7.00am heading too Callander for the first night...

Then a possible loop of lochness and the Lochside Hotel in Arrocar next to Lochlomond for night 2 and night 3 then back on the monday.

This is my first proper trip with the GS.. its only taken me a year to get out and about.

First time to scotland on the bike too.. :D

So hoping to add several waypoints of interest, and be able to choose to route to them as and when i want and the weather allows.

Cheers John..

Whereas all the advice so far will undoubtedly work - the simplest way to find your way to a stored waypoint is to press the 'FIND' Button (Press & hold the MENU button), then select WAYPOINTS, select the waypoint you want and it'll give you the option to route to it. Job done.

I don't have my GPS yet and I'm trying to plan how to route my 16-18 day RNLI trip.

I have a lot (170+) of waypoints (RNLI stations) and even more via's (to keep me on the roads nearest the coast) that are not necessarily the quickest or the shortest routes to the next waypoint.

Question:
If I dump all the waypoints and vias into the GPS and call up the next waypoint, am I going to have to tell it the vias I want to use, or will the GPS "see" that certain vias are between my position and the chosen waypoint and route accordingly?

I assume its not that clever and I'll have to tell it which vias to use and therefore create some clever waypoint and via naming procedure to simplify things en route.

Confirmation of this assumption, or other clever ideas welcomed.

You could number the WP's and vias in sequence using a three digit numbering sequence (001, 002 etc) or else 10-19 will appear in list after 1 and before 2 and 21-29 will appear between 2 and 3 etc.

You could also break the journey into numbered daily routes that each may include several WP's and vias, but would appear on your unit in a logical order for retrieval...

Good luck

I haven't had much luck getting it to route to a waypoint that isn't the final destination, so generally as others have suggested I make the chosen waypoint my destination, then when I've finished there I program in the next stop as the place to route to and so on.

I think you can/should be able to find somewhere and tell the GPS to route to that point, but in general I find it easier to mark the place as a waypoint then to route to a waypoint. But then I don't have hundreds of waypoints (yet).

I did try programming in a round trip once : start here, end here, plus half a dozen waypoints, but I couldn't get more sense out of it that "oh, you've arrived," even though we hadn't reached the first waypoint. Duh.

Thank you Mike!

I was wondering when someone would post the simplest way to route to a waypoint...;)

Pondboy - Eddy's suggestion is probably best. If you plan the routes on a PC, you can enter the waypoints and vias in any order you want and importantly, zoom in easily to check the exact route chosen by Mapsource. If it's not what you want, don't start over again, just create a new via and insert in into the list, then recalculate.

If you know exactly which sections you're doing day by day, then separate routes are great. Otherwise, prepare one big route and just activate it each morning when you start off.

you will find when the waypoints are listed, they are in order of which is the closest to your current position.

Thanks for the tip on the Find button Mike, not one I normally use:cool:

I'm not sure if creating one large route is the best way for me, as I don't know what ground I can cover on a day to day basis.

From the answers above, I am led to believe that highlighting the next waypoint will not "force" the route through the intermediate vias, so I'll have to go with a clever naming system and highlight the next way point "and" all the intermediate vias as well to ensure I keep to my chosen route.

The best "route based" alternative seems to be to divide my 200ish way points and intermediate vias into 50 routes covering 4 waypoints and lots of vias and then select each route in turn.

Am I missing anything obvious? I'm only going to have about 7-10 days to get the GPS working, load the data and learn how to use it, so I can't afford to chase the wrong setup.

Many thanks PB
