Just been prepping my DRZ for it's MOT next week, oiling stuff, tweeking stuff & general tinkering in the sun & when I pulled apart the throttle assembly to grease it I noticed the return cable was on it's last strand

Popped out to my local Suzuki dealer & they want £55.97 for a new throttle cable!
It comes in a set of 2 (pull/return)

This follows on from when I was quoted £70 each for Suzuki fork gaiters, EACH!
Looked on Wemoto's site but they only stock clutch cables for the DRZ so although I had a choice with the gaiters to go to a different manufacturer as my MOT is Tuesday I had no choice but to fork out the readies.

Universal cable repair kit......supplied with various solder nipple ends or grub screw fittings....cut to length, solder on or fit appropriate nipple with grubscrew, install on bike.

£5.00 inc vat.

On the face of it it does look expensive, but I think that it's not far off the going rate for pull/return cables.....Wemoto want £40.00 for a CB500 set.

Obviously I don't know what was wrong with your original cables, but I would have been looking for a 'Plan B'.......Were the originals truly knackered?.....If one inner was on it's way out could you not have replaced just that?.....that's what we did in my day...:rob :D

Just interested as I've got my eye on a nice DRZ on ebay.....;)

Those cable kits are a good thing to have as a spare on most bikes......there are lots out there and if there are a bunch of bikes out on a trip, a 5 quid pot like this stands a very good chance of being extremely useful at some point.

We used to carry a couple in the spares kit in Morocco :thumb2

PS you can usually get away with replacing only one of the cables......the pull one rather than the return one.....as long as there's a spring with good enough action, it will return the position :)

At the least, it will get you out of trouble :)

Throttle Cable

Dealers are for quick need. when there is only one dealer, prices reflect demand. No discount motorcycle supply nearby?

I know I am far from you. There are dozens of dealers that offer factory parts look-up online which you copy and paste to an oem parts finder.

You have anything like this?

cable guy

We are lucky here most towns have the cable man, and guess what he makes cables. You tell him what you need and or take him what you have and very quickly a repaired new cable. price are great i just had a new 50 cm cable with eyelet on end and an adjuster complete 5 euro.

So if you wish post your old cable to me and i will get it repaired it will be around 3 euro. post will be around 6 euro.

Try Venhill cables if you want a pattern assembly, or give Rhys a call at Trakspares to get you a price. Your local dealer is not an 'off road' Suzuki dealer, so you'll be getting a VOR type price, hence higher than expected.
Iirc, i paid £24 for my last oem cable assembly.
