6,000 mile service today

Just looked at my invoice - basic 6,000 mile service was £144.10 including labour, oil, filter/gasket and 20% VAT.

Seemed reasonable to me, don't know what other dealers charge?

Think you may be wrong there... Never been or felt over charged at Balderstone's...great bunch.:thumb2:thumb2

My LC is my third new 1200GS from them and I have always been treated very fairly - I have no problem recommending them to anyone in the area.

Cheaper castrol oil

Where are you getting your oil from, can't see how you are getting BMW approved oil for that money?

It's only castrol fully synthetic oil an opie oils is where its way cheaper than your dealer :D:D

I tried using a similar Rock Oil in my K1300R, BMW said they wouldn't cover the engine if I had a problem:eek: So I had to stick to Castrol:nenau

Ive just checked the Opie oil web site but they dont list Castrol 5w-40 which is the correct spec for the Lc

They only stock 10w-40 or 10w-30 this is not the correct spec oil you will find it is half the price of the 5w-40 oil.

I have used Opie oil in the past and have found thier oil reasonably priced.

Was it the dealer who said that or BMW themselves? If the Rock Oil met the specs in the owners handbook then they would not be able to turn down any engine related warranty claims.

no dont put this in your bike

No this is not it, motorcycle spec oil has additives that work with wet clutches if you use car engine oil your clutch will slip. this is the Castrol oil you need and its very expensive. if you want to find a cheaper brand then it must meet this spec listed below highlighted red.

5W-40 Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T 5W-40 is a 4-stroke engine oil with synthetic HC, which was developed jointly with BMW Motorrad. You spend £14k on a new bike model and then are quibling about a few quid for the price of a 6k service and expensive special Castrol oil that must be used

Get over yourselves:rolleyes:

It was BMW UK. I forwarded the email to Rock Oil after several emails I gave up and just used what they said. Rock oil were really good but in the end said I should use what BMW said as I wouldn't be able to win against them easily if it came to that:nenau

As long as the oil meets the requirements listed in the handbook then the manufacturer doesn't matter. The only exception that I could see to this is if BMW changed the specification from the original handbook spec and then informed every owner.

exactly.

it doesn't say in the user manual that you must only use a certain brand of oil, just the spec.
