6,000 mile service today

You spend £14k on a new bike model and then are quibling about a few quid for the price of a 6k service and expensive special Castrol oil that must be used

Get over yourselves:rolleyes:

Agree with you on that one - why skimp on servicing?, it makes no sense.

If I had the time, the tools, the smart workshop, the computer diagnostics and the inclination I might do my own servicing and seek out the cheapest oil for the job - but I'd rather spend my time riding the bike - life is too short to faff about over a couple of quid and then having to possibly quibble about warranty claims because the servicing wasn't done in accordance to BMW's requirements

All very true

I agree.:thumb I don't understand some people.:nenau

It's not a case of being ripped off, but paying a marked up price for them sourcing the right stuff and disposing of the old. All workshops are businesses if they don't make a profit they go bust. Pay up or do it yourself.:blast

You are not paying for them to get rid of your old oil in the price of the new oil! You pay the same money whether they are doing the oil change or taking it home to do it yourself:nenau

My dealer charges an extra charge for disposal of the old oil:eek: Which is strange as they sell old oil:rolleyes:

my pride & joy

5W40 @ opie oils

Ive just checked the Opie oil web site but they dont list Castrol 5w-40 which is the correct spec for the Lc

They only stock 10w-40 or 10w-30 this is not the correct spec oil you will find it is half the price of the 5w-40 oil.

I have used Opie oil in the past and have found thier oil reasonably priced.

Terry

It's available an will still be half price compared to what you will pay :blast

No i'm feeling even worse!!

I have just taken my 2013 GSA in for its 1yr/6k service to my usual dealer in Dorset (CW BMW) who I have always been really impressed with previously. When I booked it in and gave them all the details i was quoted £290 for the work - which I took on the chin even though I thought it sounded expensive. However when I came to collect the bike the price had increased to £355 !! I queried this and was told that it was because they had to change all brake fluids at the 1yr service/inspection. They knew this when they quoted surely. I said that I wasnt impressed with the price but as I was in a rush I paid and left. It has bugged me all weekend and now I read posts like this! has anyone else had an invoice anywhere near this price for the service? It has really made me think about trading this bike in next spring when the warranty is nearly up and going Japanese again as the labour costs seem considerably less.
For info the dealer was charging just over £100 per hr inc VAT - what do other BMW dealerships charge?

Are you talking about the new GS or GSA? Either way, if it's a 2013 bike, the service should just be a 6000 mile, not an annual, as the bike isn't a year old?:nenau

Sorry I'm confusing myself - Ive even managed to put this is the wrong forum - Its a 2013 model/colour, but 62 plate GSA aircooled. It is a month early on its annual service (sept 1st registered) due to a big trip which we go on in 2 weeks. Hence it had its annual and 6k service together.
Sorry.

own service

Triggerfish

I did the 600 mile service myself and kept all receipts, Im thinking of doing my own 6000 mile service too, but depends how much they will charge to reset the service light.

I shall definitely have the 12000 mile service done at the dealer as this involves valve checks and brake fluid change. if I still have it then.

I shall be selling this one and buying the new GSA at some point in the new year.
