6000 mile service - £180. Ouch.

I was OK with the £200 for my 6000 mile service, done at 5100 miles, but a little peeved at the fact that I needed new rear brake pads for an additional £65.

£250 for 6K service at local BMW dealership. Was told it would take 3 hours. Was sitting out back after one hour (including road test). Just oils and valve check.
No brake fluid as done last time at 3K. £50 oils and £200 labour for at most 1.25 hours. Not Bad.

£200 for an hours labour seems high

The official reason is that the bike could for example have been stood in a showroom for 6 months before you picked it up and so the fluid is over 12 months old when it has it's first service.
Being as they know the build date not really an excuse if the bike was picked up by the owner just as soon as it landed.

Cars sit around as well maybe not as long as they used to but most manufacturers don't change brake fluid until 3 years. Bet thats because lease companies won't stand for it! Bikes are mostly owned by individuals with no clout:mad:

6k service for a 4 month old bike cost me £73 and i supplied the oil. That included diff oil change.
Brake fluid not due.
I was well pleased, they have got my business for the next service:D.
They spotted the waterpump was leaking slightly,so new pump being fitted shortly.

Their answer would be that 3 technicians worked on it. JJH

The price for the 6k does not compare well with what I paid for my recent 12k - £270 (+ £50 for a third set of rear pads)

Included a "Technical Campaign" update on the clutch pushrod. The spec for the 12k is a lot more than the 6k obviously.

Supplying the fluids is just inspired. Still get the good will from the dealer service at a reduced cost. :clap:clap:clap

£185 for 6k service, oil, filter, brake fluid. FREE rear pads.
Pleasantly suprised.

Oh and fixed the Clinch nut that had snapped on the battery side cover.

Seems reasonable to me. Porsche major service just cost me £1400. £200? Pah! Though the porker 20,000 service interval would be appreciated on the GS.

You add it up, your gs will have three services to the Porsche one, that two minors and a major so you will not get much change out of £1000, it could well cost more, so basically one toy is costing as much as the other toy just spread out a little

Fair point.

Yes spot on the price isn't that bad when you add up the materials the oil is 5w 40 which is a shade under £80 then the oil filter and also the oil for the final drive so the dealer makes around £75 in labour so not a rip off at all. When I first heard the cost I also thought it was way too expensive but it's not when you break it down.

I do my own servicing and it still costs me about £90

Terry

Oil for £80??? You need to buy elsewhere. I buy the same oil (and Castrol Power One) for £28!

So that included the brake fluid service as well? Did you not ask how much the service would cost before you booked the bike in?

The dealer has probably made £20-£30 profit on your service, at the most. You'll be one of the first to moan if they close down one day, due to not making any money.

I don't get it when people moan about how they think a service is expensive. If money is such a worry, phone three dealers first, and go to the cheapest. Or go to an independent. Or do it yourself. It's not rocket science.

Nutty, there'd be few moans if our single Motorrad dealer in NI closed down. First thing I learned in my Genetic Engineering degree was that a principle tenet of evolution is competition. They have no competition here, ergo no evolution. It's not for no reason that plenty go to Scotland or England to buy their GS anyway, and indeed make a day of it when it needs serviced. I am a car dealer and have a state-of-the-art premises and am second (soon to be first) in the UK for customer satisfaction for our aftersales as well as in that ball park for sales. We tried getting the Motorrad franchise but BMW are content to let things be. Seems strange to me when I know that it could be done better, but their call.

Also, Mike wasn't moaning, he was asking a legitimate question. I was told that the oil change takes 15 mins and the other hour of labour is given over to time on the computer. Come on, we all know that diagnostics and the plug-in don't take that time. Yes make money, but don't take the piss. Buy a new 520d and the service pack is £375 over 3 years. That's more like it.

I think its a piss take. Do all me own repair/servicing work mainly because i dont trust em. Same with me car too. Bonus it saves money too. And know ur warranty not affected.........smart hey.

Mine was serviced at 6k on June 19th - brake fluids weren't done - should they have been or is this a new item for 6k service post June 19?
