6000 mile service - £180. Ouch.

Shamone, can you post the breakdown of costs please if possible? The 6k service is only really an oil change and for some reason a brake fluid change. The rest is inspections.

Also anyone know if the GS111 can now read and change service reminders on the LC?
Cheers

Their you go, from saturday, supplied my own oil :thumb2

I have a little Mariner outboard on my 19 foot sailing boat, 5 HP four stroke, It cost me £406 pounds for an annual service at a service centre at Christchurch.

It makes car (BMW)bike (BMW)and watch servicing look cheap in comparison.

Mine was in for its 6000 mile service on Tuesday , £180 not including the new tyres , bit annoying the price bmw charge for their special oil ? but it was the fact that it spent 2 hours plugged into a computer having 'essential ecu service flash updates' .

Luckily they are supplied foc by bmw and not paid for by the customer

Where did you get this done at Neil and what model was it for? ..... Ta

£180 is a good price. I booked mine in yesterday, and the normal price is £210, but they do me a favourable discount.

No he is an independant, used to work for Southport Superbikes for 20 years. He has now set up on his own.

Thought so. This thread is about main dealer servicing. I could get mine done by an independent for under £100.;)

6k service on my old GS LC was £130 or so. Just had the 6k on my GSA and it was £220 ! Same company, bike approximately same age. Why would they do the brake fluid on a bike thats 5 months old? especially when it wasn't done on my previous one.

Yes spot on the price isn't that bad when you add up the materials the oil is 5w 40 which is a shade under £80 then the oil filter and also the oil for the final drive so the dealer makes around £75 in labour so not a rip off at all. When I first heard the cost I also thought it was way too expensive but it's not when you break it down.

I do my own servicing and it still costs me about £90

Terry

Let me tell you the dealer pays way less than half the price you pay for the oil. :D

IIRC the pre LC bikes had the fluid changed at 12k? so they now change it at 6k so the dealer doesn't end up paying for it at 12k when the bike is part exchanged back in

Blame it on the PCP

My K1300R had it's brake fluid changed at 6K/1yr before I got my LC. BMW bought this in a few years ago (4-5 if my memory serves me) total bo()ocks changing fluid at that point but as a lot change their bikes at 2 years and dealer ended up doing the job before re-sold saves them some money?

Trouble is we are stuck trying to follow service schedule for warranty etc so don't have a choice. Most cars are 3 years!

i just wondered if they made a mistake and shouldn't have changed the brake fluid on a 5 month old bike, as they didn't on my last one. Not the end of the world, but paying money for nothing is a bit of a ball ache
