Less expensive in France

We seem to pay, in euros, very much the same as you pay in £ in the UK. 10.000km service cost me just under 160€ - about £110. Lyon is only 5 hours from Calais and you could fill your panniers with wine which would pay for the journay!

No, sorry - that would be pushing it now that there are more radar cameras and police controls; You CAN still easily average 70mph over a log journey - so 6 - 7 hours is more realistic.
