The GS is up for it’s for it’s 6K service soon, my nearest dealers are Park Lane or Vines of Guildford.
Anybody have an opinion on who’s doing the best job?
Plus what’s the likely bottom line going to be:( ?

Cheers in advance.

Vines of Guildford are very helpful, can't fault there work. Speak to Darren or Keith to book your bike in. Cost in the region of £200

Cheers

No I don't work for them, just had my bike serviced by them very proffesional

I have used both dealers, Park Lane complete waste of space, Vines helpful but at a high price. Have used South london for the past 3 years and can recommend the service department over that of Vines.

PL have improved considerably.

Their "hold" message tells you that you'll be in within 48 hours.

Actually getting through to somebody though is a different matter:)

After my 6 k service with PL the techie came out to go through all the work they had done, which was a nice touch.

No complaints here about PLB.
Quite decent totty in the reception area next door too;)

Curtesy bikes seem to require a lot of advance notice though.

Sawbridgeworth were always good if you fancy a little trip to Herts.

Cheers all so far

I hadn’t considered SLM as I thought its more East Surrey than South London:D . Still if they should be the part the extra miles don’t ruffle the GS.

Vines seem to have splashed out on a new workshop by the looks of their web site, and will be near by in the future, as long the guy with the spanner is a slick as the pictures of the workshop.

Park Lane didn’t instil huge amounts of confidence at the 600mile service, which was done in two parts but were friendly enough, plus they gave the bike a free sheep dip. They were the most convenient at the time as still would be currently.

We be slamming on a lot more work horse miles next year so will be good to hook up with a good service centre.

Any other recent reviews?

I have had poor experiences of Park Lane/Battersea. They did not order warranty parts in advance, so warranty work couldn't be completed. The service which they assure dme would be done by mid-day took until 5.00 pm. They had no concept of customer service, never returned calls either before or on the day, and their service receptionist seemed to think that because things weren't his own personal responsibility, I had no right to complain about them.

While I was there waiting, three other customers came in to complain about the standard of work done on their bikes. One of these was a serious mistake that could potentially have been extremely dangerous (not tightening up the handlebar mounts on a K75S). My service seemed to be carried out OK.

Incidentally, they told me they had ordered the part I needed but they were on back order, and they'd call me when they received it to arrange fitting. I called them again after three or four weeks, and was told (eventually) "they're still on back order, don't worry, we will contact you." Shortly afterwards, I went to Cannons in Braintree, explained the problem, they ordered the parts, called me in a week, and have now carried out the work. For all I know, Park Lane still have my part sitting on a shelf somewhere.

I may have caught them at a bad time, and I think they were without a Service Manager at the time, but once bitten, twice shy...

Why would anyone use any of them them in preference to Steptoe?

Mystery to me.

Another option could be Brian Giles down at Pembury, Kent.

He would get my vote on price and job well done.

I’m half tempted to get it checked over by a decent independent then just get it rubber stamped by a dealer for the BMW stamp for the service history and the down loads.

Can just say vines has it for me with 7 techs and 4 of them are senior techs who have been with bmw for more than 10 years the quality of workmanship is second to none and i know itsbusy there and getting booked in can be a pain but having been there last week and seeing that they are having to cope with the extra work load of no dealers in the south but they are having massive building works done at the moment i was showed round the mess these guys are working in. A big credit to them :thumb

By way of balance, I have stopped using Vines even though they are 3 miles from me as their service has been totally usless from the start (got my bike from them).

Final straw came when the serviced the brakes and a day later I noticed a grinding noise and found a pad on the front down to the metal - they had no explaination to offer. They did supply the wrong replacement pads though- competent - not. Then told me that no pads other than OE ones fit the bike - downright untruth.

They also refused to handle the warranty claim for the usual fork brace corrosion.

Duncan Bell is the only person there who knows his onions - the rest of them are shocking.

Three cheers for Steptoe. 1/2 an hour from Vines and you know your getting a proper job done.

A bit of a trip, but CW in Dorchester are highly recommended.

Might be a bit of a trip but North Oxford Garage a worth a try. Had my 6k service carried out there last September, cost was £163. They pointed out that my timing cover needed replacing due to corrosion and had put the said item on order, they also resealed clutch master cylinder that had a slight leak. All done under warrenty.

Just had mine done at NOG, great polite and friendly service, but £215.99 for a 6000 mile service :eek

£275 here including fitting a new rear Anakee (£100 + fitting/balance) and the use of whatever bike was in the lot for me (chose another GS12), and feck the politeness (although all the staff were great, mega polite to moi or i'd bite their heads off :D). It's mainly an oil and filter change ffs :thumb

have just changed diff and gearbox oil, new ebc rear brake pads and oil and filter change and checked the tappets-grand total of 50 quid, will now book the bike in for 6000 mile stamp in book-stuff 200 quid, do most of it yourself, you'll do a better job:thumb

BTW - don't forget y'all that you don't need dealer servicing for the warranty any more.:thumb
